How many years have you been into bodybuilding?

Been working out 23 years. I started when I was a teenager because my mom, who was divorced, single and dating at the time kept pointing out muscular guys to me and said to me (I was a skinny kid at the time), "see, if you lift weights you can look like that!". Parents don't always realize the power that they have. So I got one of those Sears weight sets, you know, the ones with plaster inside the plastic "plates" and started lifting. The kid upstairs, who was about 3 years older than me and hit puberty first, started ligting and got an impressive physique, so I guess I was kind of competing with him, or trying to be like him.

I wonder how many people here started working out because one parent or the other told us we were too skinny?

I had the same problem as anal_itch....I was a fat kid..coming from an "ethnic" background, my mother fed and fed me when i was young...i was a lard ass...at 16 i just got fed up with it...and it wasnt because i was made fun of school...i was the popular fat kid...but because my cousins friend left his FLEX mag at my house...I started looking at it...I WAS HOOKED...ever since then i have had the BB bug.

Yeah but trust me...at 16, I didnt know how to train/eat/ or how to take supplements (legal) so i yo-yo'd most of my teen years...not up untill a couple or more years back is when the "wisdom" starting sinking in..you now how we were when we are kids..we get preached to...and we ignored...
