How many scoops?

How many scoops of whey protein do you take after a workout? I want it to be used 100% efficiently because I am poor and can't afford to eat through the protein too fast! Just curious! Thanks!

P.S.: Do you use it on off days also, or is post-workout the best time to take protein?

read the pail you get it from

i am not sure if all of my advice should come from a pail though...

it says 2-3 a day, and i want to use it the most efficiently because i can't afford too much of it...

if price is what's stopping you, i have a big tub of the stuff from costco for around 24$ if i remember correctly. it has only like 26g of protein per scoop so i usually put about a scoop and a half so i get around 40 g of protein.

if i was you i'd only take it on lifting days RIGHT AFTER you workout. Especially since you are tight on cash like myself, you shouldn't be taking it on off days.

So is the consensus 40 grams of protein after a workout? Or is it less? I don't want to overdrink this protein because I need it to last a long time...

Thanks!

P.S.: I have the GNC brand of whey protein, dunno if that's good or not... but it has 20 grams of protein a scoop. That's why I want to know how many scoops will yield the most efficient results :)

I'll say 2 scoops after your workout. If you eat enough protein (3/4 to 1 gram per lb of bodyweight) through food you don't need to use it on your off days.

Bro, if you want to save money don't shop at GNC. Shop online at like advantagesupplements, dpsnutrition, vitaglo, or something.

Could you give me the web addresses? I didn't know that GNC was the expensive brand :x

Well it's definitely the most overpriced. Here's some sites:

www.advantagesupplements.com - My favorite, the cheapest site I've ever found. Free shipping for orders over $200, otherwise only $6 flat rate.

www.vitaglo.com - Pretty cheap, has some hard to find stuff. Free shipping if you spend $50.

www.dpsnutrition.com - Biggest online supp site. Kinda pricey, but everyone seems to like it. I think they might actually have everything.

If you do a search there was a post a while ago for everyone's favorite online site. Good luck bro, I know what it's like to have to save money. This should help.

Same here on all counts. I upped it to 1.5 from 1 scoop... ~22g just doesn't seem like enough PWO. Other times and off days I just get my protein from food, although I do like to take it after I wake up sometimes to get some fast acting protein in my system.

I got a 6lb. tub of EAS whey from Sam's Club. I compared it w/my roommate's Optimum Nutrition whey. They're both at 120 cals (actually EAS lists 120 GRAMS of calories, haha), w/24g prot, 3g carbs, 1g fat for ON, and 22g prot, 4 g carbs, 2g fat for EAS. A lot of people think ON is great quality whey, but at $5.20/lb. ($26/5 lbs. from bulknutrition.com, shipping extra... and fucking $46 from ON's own store) v. $3.34/lb. I'll stick w/the EAS and sprinkle a little extra on top :p

I would also like to mention that I picked up a box of EAS Advant Edge Carb Control Bars (chocolate PB) for $15/dozen, and they're great! Only 2g of sugar while providing 23g of a nice blend of proteins of varying absorption (whey, casein, caseinate, soy, milk) @ 210 cals. Invaluable as a meal replacement on really busy days (especially while cutting), and the best tasting low-carb protein bar I've had!

BTW, LOVE the avatar ellinghad! Man seh! Haha ;)
