How many people use coupons?

I mean regularly, like you check the papers and cut out coupons for grocery shopping? Is it worth the hassle, how much money do you save regularly and do you/can you find coupons for items for a "healthy" diet?

I never have, but I'm really considering it. Budget is real tite right now, gotta either find cheaper sources/alternatives or cut some core items out of my shopping list.

Once at the market there was a couple ahead of me with a shopping cart full of groceries. They handed the cashier a handful of coupons and I kid you not the balance due came out to something ridiculous like $30. Granted there were a lot of items that I wouldn't care for (cookies, hamburger heler, cerelas, etc...), but nontheless that really astonished me. I wonder if that's something that can be done regularly or if it was just some super duper once in a life time coupons they had.

i get a coupon in the mail all the time for a grocery store i shop at, the last one was $10 off when you buy $50 worth of items
i use those all the time
rarely do i use coupons for just one item that takes like 50 cents off

I used 19 coupons today at Bed, Bath & Beyond - they take even expired coupons of theirs, so I save them.....

As for the grocery store - I buy what's on sale with the Price Plus card or whatever + have a coupon for.....I have a pantry to stock up on dry goods + shelving in the basement....

I save a lot of $$$ - my receipts show how much I actually save...

Yeah, same for me as hammy....

if there are Jewel's near you....I don't know about west coast but they have "preferred member" cards and shit.

you could always find a Sam's or wharehouse type place near you

I have my own apartment at college so I can relate to saving cash.

I found that certain supermarkets have different types of sales. One chain will have relatively higher prices while their sales will feature a lot of "buy 1 get 1 free" stuff.

Another chain has relatively lower prices all year round with less exciting sales. This option is definitely the better of the two.

Don't be afraid to purchase generic brands for certain items. I mean there's no way I would eat generic pasta over my cherished Barilla....but paper towels and such...get the cheap stuff. At school nobody cares if you are wiping spilled milk with brawney or blahblah towels.

i clip them, but i always forget to bring them with me to the store. i suck.... lol

Damn u r on late

i get all my food and beer from costco.... i can eat a week for 50-60 bucks... i got it doiwn to a science

and my beauty supplies are from salons so no discount there

I don't. I order my groceries online and they usually have pretty good deals. My grocery list is chicken, fish, oats, eggs, legumes, salsa & veggies. I buy generic for certain household items.

<<< coupon user...i say if you can save money...why not? i don't care who says i am cheap or what not..

my entire family called me stupid for getting the panda express receipt and taking advantage of the offer of calling the 1800 toll free # and doing a small survey in exchange for a validation code for 3$ off next purchase...

plate is like ~5.50...so 3 dollars off is a GOOD discount...you might think if its SUCH a good coupon and so easy to do as calling a toll free #...why doesnt everyone do it and panda loses money?...well the receipt is only ok to get the receipt discount if you call within 5 days after your purchase...anyways 2.50 for a big plate of food...and the survey only took 5 min (just keep pressing #s to answer their qs) good exchange if you ask me :)

im assuming:
eggs

I have saved literally thousands upon thousands of dollars in my lifetime so far with coupons. take that into account in after-tax dollars, invested, and eventually you'll end up with some money.

I go to costco too, i buy shit loads of frozen chicken (breasts, tenderloins and wings), ground turkey, tons of tuna and canned chicken, cottage cheese (2lb tubs), egg whites, 5lb brocolli bags and a few other things.

Problem is, although it does save a lot of money, there lots of other items that are not worth buying or available from there. So I still need to do side shopping. Other problem is that I always walk out with $150-$200 worth, so some times I have to wait a couple of weeks and make due at the market for a while.

I also thought of this today becasue I went to the market, there was a ~<4lb package of fresh chicken breast for $14, but only $7.90 if you had a club card. It seemed like a good deal to me (costco's frozen chicken breast are $14.99 for 5lb bag). So I started wondering about how to save money on food and other groceries/house hold items.
