How long would the insulin spike last?

If I drink a 20 oz. Gatorade with my whey protein immediately after lifting (that's 35g sugars in the Gatorade) how long would it take for my insulin levels to taper off again? In other words, how long after my post-workout shake would I be okay eating almonds or another fat source? I don't want to eat anything like that if my insulin levels are still high (is that right ~SC~?)

Gatorade isn't going to spike slin much at all, and not when combined w/that much whey protein. However, your second meal after the liquid pwo offering ideally should be a solid protein/carb meal anyhow, so the question of fats would not apply here.

My second meal is usually turkey and some oats (not together). But I'm just wondering if snacking on some almonds two hours after that would be a bad thing.

What would you recommend (product and amount) for the best insulin spike if I'm trying to stay as lean as possible? I bought 2 lbs. of dextrose from the Protein Factory but haven't used it yet.....

Thanks ~SC~!!

gatorade contains a lot of fructose. also it uses a strong preservative which has a tendency to kill stomach bacteria.

just notes.

powerade and allsport are worse choices since they contain HFCS

I'd be using just that, as that should not prohibit you from becoming/staying as lean as possible, unless you are utilizing more than is needed for recovery purposes.

Okay....so if I'm a 180 lb. male with about 9% bodyfat and I just got done lifting pretty intense weights for 45 minutes, and I'm making a shake, how much whey and how much of the carbs should I use?

Try .4g protein and .8g carbs per kilo of bodyweight(divide your weight by 2.2 to convert from pounds to kilos).
