How long could you survive?

Imagine- a country wide terrorist started viral outbreak, killing several thousands if not millions.
Everything shuts down and people are warned to stay in isolation. Trucks stop delivering food to grocery stores, clean water becomes scarce. People panic and begin riots and total chaos.

What would you do? What would you eat/drink? Are you prepared for such an event?

Personally I think we as Americans have it far too easy and wouldn't know how to survive like some other countries & people do.

Interesting.. I just had this vivid image in my head for about 5 min thinking.. Damn what would I do... There's no solution, I'd just have to take everyday as it is in that situation, I'm def not prepared.. People in the world are actually living this it's quite scary thinking about it.. what would you do?

LOL

I was just talking to someone about that yesterday (different scenario, but the same if you had to fend for yourself conclusion).

We no longer are capable of fending for ourselves as a nation. The sad truth is most people would die rather quickly.

I'd survive though on the several years of canned rations I have hidden in my secret bunker.

Met a guy in the UK who would preach to everyone about the coming of numerous possible disasters. He was constantly preparing himself for the worst case scenario. He got planning permission from the local council to build himself an underground shelter which he kept stocked with tinned food and water. The first time I met him he showed me a belt he'd had made from some kind of flexible metal which could be whipped out and used as a weapon? He was a clear cut fruitcake of course but when he talked you could see that he really believed it was going to happen any day, made you think.

I have actually been slowly stocking up on non-perishable food items and bottled water. I simply spend about $5-$10 each week on this stuff and it adds up over time.

I also have plenty of matches, lamps w/extra oil, and gun ammo.

I think I could survive a long time if I had to.

and if America fell apart completely and as a last resort, I'd live deep in the mountains living off the land. I grew up fishing, hunting, farming so I think I could survive in the wilderness, even though it'd be rough.

I feel sorry for city people though.

I'm forwarding this to the secret service.

Do you ever feel that people are watching you?

It may be paranoia, but it could very likely happen when you consider how fragile our way of life is.

The vast majority of people have been spoiled their entire lives. They've never had to do without anything and can always pay someone to do something or for something.

Imagine a large scale disaster.....Once panic ensues, it is like the domino effect. Everyone freaks out and succombs to their animal instinct for survival

We have a month's supply of gas, water and canned/bottle food and two weeks of MRE's on the property and there's always the massive deer population. The gas and water gets rotated so at any given time they are not too stagnant. In additon we all have big ass pre packed backpacks in the event of a natural or man made disaster. All possible scenarios have already been discuss as far as routes off the island if necessary.

It's pretty scary to think about but it's comforting to be prepared.

^^Now here's a woman who has it figured out.

If you and I are the only ones who survive, we could mate and keep the human race going. A good looking race might I add.

Great you think about this and stock up on things.. I'm so used to depending on people, I could never survive in that situation :worried: ! I'm gonna stock up on canned soup from now.. They last for months.. at least I have some kind of backup!

I hear ya. My wife would die within days almost certainly, she's a smart cookie when it comes to business but she can't even cook a meal never mind fend for herself or survive in the wilderness. She's had a maid pander to her all her life.

We're similar in some respects in that I was dragged around hills and mountains hiking and camping with my father when I was young. You don't forget those skills, ‘character building’ was the phrase he used.
