I really have this great idea for a product. I don't know if its been done before but it came to me while doing my housework Thurs night. I'd love to look into it and see.

I don't even know where to begin!


Is it costly?

How do you go about getting the product in production? Would you end up having to come up with thousands to get it started or is there some way around it by going thru a larger co like Rubber Maid.. etc?


I really thinking this could be an awesome product for inside and out side and would benifit both men and women.

And don't mention your idea publicly (not even to family).

If you are serious about this, I can point you in the direction. Intellectual Property (Patents, Trademarks & Copyrights) is my 2nd passion. ;)

You can seek the patent and choose to manufacture this good yourself, assign the idea to another company or license it. There are many ways you can do this.

Filing a patent application is A LOT more expensive than filing a trademark application and definitely more expensive than filing a copyright. Unlike a trademark application, you will definitely need an attorney for this $$$). I assume you will be filing a utility patent application, so it may require less work than the applications filed for medicine and electronics.
 
I haven't mentioned it to anyone at all... its all bottled up in this beautiful brain of mine ;)

I will definatly have to get it tested and such and doubt i will be able to gather up enough money to do so. So I'm guessing it will have to go 3rd party

This is interesting. I was talking to a blind person last night and he mentioned a device he would like to see invented for blind people. I asked him if there was anything similiar to what he was describing and he told me he has been trying all avenues to find it but best he can tell is that it hasn't been invented yet.

If you could NYCgirl, whatever information you PM Frisky about the process of filing, would you forward that information to me also. I would really appreciate it because what he described would make it so much easier on blind people.

Patents are no longer a useful thing unless its extremely innovating. Its not about the patent, its the marketing from then on.
Once a market is decided upon and even if you have a patent, the second to market will be better guaranteed
 
Just pm your idea and I will take care of the rest! Trust me I would never lie on the internet!
 
And I should add, if you have a patent and you are a small company, the laywers in the other war room will laugh at you and steamroll you. Unless its like as specific as a molecule, you neednt waste your time on the patent. Make your product, fulfill the needs and wants of the consumer at a profit above all and you wont fail

It can't be by money though... cause I'm sure what you are thinking about would be more expensive than my product. But If indeed the product I'm thinking about isn't alredy out there its market will be bigger. ;)

I agree Marketing is more important to making a business successful. But you still want to have some sort of legal protection even if it involves some prior art.

That said, with regard to trademark protection, Marketing has ruined a lot of brand images.

Marketing is a double edge sword.

hey frisk, there are many ways to get money to do your idea. government grants, private donations for a business, or show your idea to a company and see if they are willing to flip the bill for production and you get a percentage for just comming up with the idea. but make sure before you tell anyone , or any company your idea or they will steal it right after they told you no they arent interested.

This is why the patent application is important. And once registered, whether she brings the idea to market or not, she will have Federal legal protection for 17 years.

Legal Protection and Marketing and Entreprenuer Skills are 2 different things.
