can anyone do this? is there a special program that lets you see people as IPs instead of usernames?

And if the RIAA can track people trading songs, then howcome law enforcement can track the pervos trading child porn on Kazaa?

Answers?

They're not using a trojan.

They look for people *sharing* songs. Then simply look at the tcp stream as they begin downloading from the user.

Then they ask the ISP which the IP belongs to for the name/address of the user who had IP address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx at the time of the download.

It sounds as if they can only get people who are offering the songs and not actually downloading them. For exampe if I download a song and move it out of my shared folder can that be tracked?

No.

But going after those who do share will eventually leave no one sharing.
Either out of fear of the law or because they're in jail ;)

Code,

The new versions of Kazaa Lite and K++ say they can block the RIAA from checking your IP. Do you believe that?

Enter this

Netstat –a | more

And you’ll see pretty much what they are looking at to a degree.

As far as blocking your IP. No, they just can’t see all the other goodies you may or may not have.

I doubt that it's fool-proof. But you never know.

Who cares about getting busted for sharing songs. I'm more concerned if you can get busted for sharing PORN.
