How does one file for unemployment?

I am unemployed, just got fired for falling asleep at my work. I worked there since May 2000. A couple bucks every week would help me out...

go down to the unemployment office and file... but i warn you that being fired likely won't get you money.

you can lie more easily and say you were just laid off (shortage of work) because in the US they don't require records of employment like they do here.. but if they catch you you get a criminal record...

The Employment Devlopment Department has a number you can call in your state. They should also have a website where you can fill out the initial info, print it, and fax to the number given from the site. They will then contact you and your employer probably via telephone. you employer will have to verify you were not laid off for performance (or lack thereof). This is how California does it, I don't know about New Jersey though.
