How do you make new friends,

When you move to a new place? I want some friends :(

Get involved in activities if possible. Interested in any sports? Find a club team like softball or volleyball, something like that. Join a gym. My mother made a shitload of friends from her aerobics classes.

Anywhere people gather, go hang out :)

For some reason I dont think thats would work.
You never know until you try...

but seriously have you thought of any local clubs? not the dance or drink variety of others? Curves?

What type of friends are you looking for?

Thats a good idea. I might look into aerobics. The only thing is I am afraid of the sister inlaw, she does thoughs things and I am sure she would love to make my life hell. (she hates me) But that is no excuse. I will look into that. Thanks chewy

Work, the gym, bars. Bars probably being the worst option. But just getting out and seeing the same people over and over can alot of times start a friendship on its own. Unless of coarse you are morbidly obese or horribly disfigured, then I'd suggust a blind support group:)

Daisy don't worry about your sister in law. Don't even think about what she does and what she says.

I know... Me too. I would love to hang with you too. Too bad all of us chicks werent close together.

Go take a class or two at a local university if there's one nearby. Kill some free time, learn something, and get involved with people in an academic environment. College gyms suck for working out, but they're a great place to meet people.

my gym is pretty nice actually, and I've met a ton of people there. Distractions are a major concern - its quite the meat market.

Our school gym is horrible. Smallest gym of all the big 10 schools... and it's the newest!

Buuuut! :rainbow: It has pretty carpeting :rainbow: , dozens of big-screen TV's :rainbow: , super-nice surround-sound stereo systems :rainbow: , all new gym and cardio machines :rainbow: , AND TWO FUCKING POWER RACKS :redhot: .

Fuck them, my last TTT had a better gym than this place. Here they bitch, at UW Oshkosh I would just bring my bands and shit in, steal the 80's for mounting, whip out my two-board, clap out a cloud of chalk, snort an ammonia cap, and look pissed so no one talked to me.

Fuck, I miss doing that.

It doesn't sound that bad. Our gym is the same cept minus all the TV's and expensive stuff - not a single power rack. There are 2, yes 2, smith machines. There is one squat rack. They have some cool stuff I guess like a SLDL and reg Deadlift platform but it still really pisses me off. Not to mention there are 5 million kids in there at all times

I did lift at the YMCA that was in the next city over, but pretty close- till they started denying my membership last week (I was using my membership from my hometown)

Oh yeah, doing pullups today the bar was only like shoulder width wide...I normally go pretty wide...it was hilarious - my max reps went from ~10 to 16 on my first set. All biceps or so it felt. I gotta find a solution to that one.

Yeah sports are a great way. School can be. Living situations (finding a roommate, etc.). Jobs. Volunteering can lead to a lot of friends. It can be hard, I know all about it. Once you get over the hump though it'll all be gravy.

friends r harder to make when u get a bit olde.r. suks but true

its all about attitude

people living in their home towns are socially lazy, i have found, and so it usually falls on the new person to be a little friendlier. not overly friendly - that reeks of deperation, makes you look like a social liability, and is personally degrading

simple thing is to say hi to everyone, and try to remember something about them - particularly people you see frequently ie cashiers at the supermarket, colleagues etc and make small convo. things usually grow from there.

bars arent a terrible idea, but are a bit superficial and the crowd that goes frequently...eh. not people you really want to be hanging with.

the absolute BEST way imo is to be introduced by a friend to their circle of friends, and then get their numbers, and maybe go for a coffee or 2 over the course of a fortnight. introductions are way easier than doing it on your own

i was in a strange city for a looooong time. if only i had the social skill then taht i do now...then maybe i would have flicked my then girlfriend in the first 5 minutes and had a screaming good time in my first year :D

good luck, and have fun with it :)
