At lot of people build their first sites on free site that offer tools. That's a pretty cookie cutter way to make a web page. To really customize a page you need to do your own HTML. You can use a program like Frontpage or Dreamweaver to basically design a page to look the way you want it and it makes the HMTL for you. You can go a step futher and learn about HTML. And at the stuff on a page like pics and music is uploaded somewhere. You can't link the stuff from your harddrive. Technically I guess you can but I won't get into that.

If you are talking about a commercial page you can pay someone to host it and even make it. Host fee's can be pretty cheap. Like as low as $5 a month. It depend on the deal and how much traffic to the site. And you can buy a domain name for about $15. I ran a site for a little while but it wasn't really worth the effort and time to me.

most of my work is in thin-client extranets (database driven apps that run with a web interface). I do not have the artistic ability to make graphics and whatnot. I do have a hell of a graphic artist I work with for that stuff.

Shows prices were accurate. If I were you, i would go to yahoo and type "HTML tutorial" in the search box and see what comes up. The web is littered with primers that have been around since the .com boom. You can get better tutorials and examples by looking there than you can by buying a book...

Make your own page and download MacroMedia Dreamweaver 4 .... it's very easy to use... design your page on there, in conjunction with Photoshop for graphics, and then upload the .html file on a free web server such as Elitefitness Free Websites, Geocities, etc... If you want, I could help you out with anything you wanna do related, or I can give you info... Just PM me if you ever need help with web site stuff.
