How do you know when you're going over the edge drinking? When did you develop the ability to control yourself?

rebuilding, getting there

I really havent drank much until I moved up here to CO a couple weeks ago. I've been drinking most every night, and it usually ends up bad. I wont think anything's going on and the next thing I know I'm pissed off, being a real dick to whoever I'm with and so drunk I dont know the difference. It's really bad and may have cost me my closest female friend last night. :theshadow . I came up here to start over, get away from the vices I had in Arkansas, but it seems like I just develop new ones that hinder my growth as a person.

my last semester of college was one 5 month long party.....4 easy, late morning/early afternoon classes, 2 of my my friends were bartenders who "took care" of me, i was attending one of the best "party" colleges in this state.

i had a few "mornings after" when i could not recall what happened the night before...i started getting some strange looks from friends about my previous night's behavior...woke up in a couple of beds that were not my own with no conception of how i got there...

after graduation i moved back in with my parents to dry out.

ever since then, i have severely limited the frequency of and the amout of alcohol consumption.

Stick with beer. When I start with the scotch I usually get too drunk. I can keep beer pretty steady. I'm a happy drunk though. So its not that bad

It just takes self control.. When people are surrounded by those that go overboard... people follow...

Just know when to stop and take control.. Its yr body.. You're in control of it... :)

You're the only one than can or will know if you have to stop. If you're binge drinking every time you drink, or feel like you want to binge drink whenever you have a drink, I'd suggest stepping back and not drinking for a while, put yourself in check. Just because you moved away from some problems doesn't mean you left your baggage there.

1. It's bad for your health.
2. It can become a habit that consumes you and you don't realize it until 7 years have passed like it was a week. (I know about this one.)
3. You don't want to be that guy that's the loser sloppy drunk. (Luckily I don't know about this one personally, but have a friend that isn't invited to anything with anyone because of his inability to control himself.)

your issues will follow you no matter where you go. You need to fix he inner scene and not the outer.
Drinking is your vise to numb you out to whatever is eating at you.
All and any addiction is a vise in coping. Figure out what you're trying to numb out and talk about it.

this is exactly what i did,if you remember about a month ago i was spinning out of control, and it was when i was drinking rye, I backed off for a few weeks then started drinking only beer and ive been ok and dont get as stupid drunk

Jmo, you are blowing off some steam. But moderation is key. Trust me I know all about this. I have gotten into a ton of trouble and had some pretty bad stretches drinking. Don't let it happen to you. I turn into a completely different person when I drink a lot, not one that anyone likes either.
I still want to hear about the Grizz.

That's what I just did. It's been six weeks since I had a drink and it feels like I have my control back. It wasn't hard, I just drink water or cranberry/soda and had to listen to my friends make fun of me for a couple of weeks.

I have that friend who is the sloppy loser drunk and his social life is nonexistent now - he has to crash parties to see any of his friends because none of us will invite him.
