I think a hernia is where the intestines poke through a tear in the ab wall, usually there is a lump right below the waistline that you can press back in. I know bending over is painful, especially bending and lifting.

it can depend on the site of the hernia, and whether bowel has herniated and got trapped or strangled, they can have a cough impulse...and are sometimes reducible. try coughing and seeing if it moves out or you can feel it move

In guys the inguinal (spelling) is common, and most people go to the doctor because they see or feel a bulge in their scrotum.

not neccsarily a hernia.

The big questions for him to answer are:
1) does it hurt more when he bears down (e.g. tries to take a shit)
2) is there a visible bulge anywhere, or can he feel a lump?


scrotal pain can happen and will go away in a day or two... odds are he doesn't have a hernia.. if he does, its not the end of the world, simple surgery.
