How do you cook salmon? I bought a really nice filet to cook for my dinner..but don't know how to cook it. It was expensive so I don't want to fuck it up. :(

Soak a nice peice of wood in water and bake it on that.
Smoke it if you have the means.
Wrap it in foil with herbs and lemon and bake.
You can also grill it. Its one of the better fish for grilling, it holds together.

I like to season it and grill it on the bbq. I'm not fond of baking fish. I've also marinaded my salmon in some of Ken's Light Raspberry Walnut Vinagrette dressing...I love it like that. Even a simple lemon and pepper seasoning will do salmon nicely. If you grill it, the skin may burn as the fat drips down and the flames flair up...that's ok though. :)

Salmon is great over any direct heat cooking method due to its high fat content it will get a nice tasty crust. I think Your best options are grilling and broiling... just add a little seasoning (lemon pepper, montreal steak, etc.) and it doesnt need too much to taste good.. just be careful not to overcook

GOOD LUCK

I think it tastes best grilled.lay the fillet skin down on a piece of alum. foil grill on med. about 20 mins. or untill flackey and the opaqe color is gone. When you remove the alum foil the skin will come of with it.MMMMmmmm very tasty

Do this and be happy!
Crumple, then uncrumple 2 sheets of aluminum foil.
Smear butter, [olive oil will work also] on each piece of foil. Lay a bed of sliced onions, inside each onion slice place a slice of lemon or lime. On top of the lime a heavy sprinkling of fresh parsley. Season salmon with your choice of seasonings, but lemon pepper and a little sea salt works very nice. Lay fish on the prepared bed skin side down[if it has skin]and repeat the process on the top side of filet. Double or triple fold foil around edges and cook on the grill about 8-10min per side depending on the size of the fillet. This also works well in the oven at about 400-425 for a little longer. And, beleive it or not, you can also steam/bake this in the dishwasher on the short cycle/no soap obviously. Seal edges very well for the last one. Serve on bed of long grain/wild rice. I have cooked salmom may times with 1st2 methods and twice dishwasher method. They are all goof proof.Thank me later

hey there
too bad you could not consult with me the day you were cooking..i am a chef and i do this all the time
salmon is a fish that takes to all kinds of cooking methods
old folks love it poached with hollandaise (gag!)
grilled baked sauteed, broiled, pan fried all are good
you can poached in water with lemon veggies and herbs
or poach in olive oil also with herbs
no matter
rule of thumb......
try to use flavours you like
if you like greek.....lemon and oregano
chinese.......soy and garlic
thai.......lemongrass and sambal
teriyaki is good
so is satay
hey nw canadaian indians make jerky out of it

it's all up to you
i could cook salmon a different way every day a year
but ya i know

It is best grilled, but you can bake it as well. Actually, baking does not dry it out as much as grilling. Be careful...not to overcook it. It does not take long in a preheated oven or grill.

How do you tell when it's done? I need something else to eat besides chicken and beef. Any good salmon recipes? Thanks

As long as it is fresh then treat it like steak, can be cooked rare if you desire. Take a piece of salmon and score the skin, get a pan good and hot and rub a small amount of oil onto the skin of the salmon, place the fish into the pan skin side down and cook for about 3 minutes or until the skin is golden and crisp. Now you have two options, you can flip the salmon over in the pan and cook for a little bit more until warmed through, or if ya want to make sure it is cooked all the way through you can put it into the oven in the pan (make sure the pan is ok to go in the oven) and cook for about 10 mins, guarenteed beautiful piece of fish.

Salmon is such a subtle flavour that you don't want to add much to it, perhaps some lemon juice, or a little bit of balsamic vinegar reduced down in a pan with a little sugar.

If you are bulking then be more adventourous, a little camembert melted on top of it is nice, or if you wanna get really adventourous then make up a lovely light batter mix and deep fry it.

I used to be a chef at a place that specialised in fresh fish, so if you or anyone else wants some more good recipies for salmon or any fish then le me know and I will give you the keys to unlock the door to flavour country.;)

Either seared in a skillet or grilled. On the grill....slice up a lemon and make a platform of lemon slices directly on the grill. Lay the salmon fillets on top of the lemon slices and grill. Works perfect!

My easy way-- Take a pan (glass works best), pour in enough milk to coat the bottom, put the piece of salmon in, and garnish the top. Bake at 400 for around 20 minutes-- the fish should flake and the milk will bubble up through the salmon. This is straightforward but effective.

butterfly it
sautee gently in alittle olive oil
add some capers, lemonjuice and garlic
splash of whitewine
splash of cream(optional)
lil seasalt and fresh black pepper
yum
