How do I transfer pics from camara to PC?

New member
Can someone please explain to me how to transfer pics to my PC, I have the manuel (toshiba camara)-and it says I need SmartMedia, what is that? I'm obviously not very comp.literate but I promise that if I learn how to do this I will show you guys some cool ass shit

I have a brand new digital camara but it says I need a PC card adapter(sold seperately)-is it possible to have someone e-mail the program to me?

Your camera should have come with a PCMCIA adapter. Do you have USB on your 'puter? If so go to CompUSA and get a smart media card reader. It plugs into the USB connector and your software program should pull up when the card is read. That is if your PC is'nt 2 days older then dirt! I burn and produce DVD's for documentaries, CD-ROMS and use a pro grade digital camera for my thermal dye sub printer. I use the smart media all day long with the camera, not the DVC. Go to the computer store and talk to a tech, he'll guide you in the right direction. Plus, those readers have dropped in price big time. Good luck!

Wait. with a brand new camera you should not need a media card reader. The software that came with your camera should let you load straight from the camera to your computer. you should have gotten a usb cord that hooks direct to your camera.

Click on your cam icon and click on the snapshot btw open your cam lens haha take a snapshot it will go to a gallery on that program each pic will have a long number then click on file at upper left of the screen and click on send to email then forward to your email and then you can send where ever you want from there, hope that helps karma would be nice too:D

g-dogg,

The only person who made sense here was ROLGOR. Give us more details, the make and model and what came with your camera (e.g. cables, manuels, software...)

Then you probably don't have a usb connection. I don't know anything about macs, I know that you can by a usb card and add it to a pc. It looks like you are going to have to head to the computer store after all. There might be some kind of adaptor that you can get but I think you are going to have to spend $40-$50 bucks " thats the price for a USB card for an IBM type pc. MAC might be more" It is easy to put in and comes with instructions. You can do it yourself. Maybe we have some MAC users who can be of more help.

If its a G3 then it should have USB, the older clones did NOT have USB. Is it one of the fruity colored MACs or an older plain jane?

go down to best buy and ask the guy in camera's if there is a mac download cord to replace your USB (prob not a bad idea to take your camera with you). If not then tell the guy in the computer area you need a USB adapter for a mac . If the cord Johnboy posted should be perfect if not then you can go with a USB hub which are mac compatible and only cost $19, it will be plug and play so painless to install. You should have gotten a software CD with your camera with SmartMedia on it, if you can't find it I can burn ya a copy or post it on Kazaa for you.

If all else fails I live in NW vegas and can walk ya through it.

USB is USB (Universal Serial Bus) it doesn't matter if its a mac or IBM compatable machine.

That's true about USB but since the advent of Firewire aka: iLink or IEEE-1394 with digital cameras and DVcorders, both having mpeg capabilities on top of stills and DV motion AVI the whole cord thing has gotten out of hand. 4 pin to 4 pin, 4 pin to 6, 6 to 6, RCA and S-Video etc... Taking the camera in is the best idea and let them figure out which cord you need. They will assume though that you have an IBM clone so make sure you tell them you have a MAC and which model number. Good luck!

Have you tried the USB V2.0? Darn thing screams over 1.1! I have the Olympus E-20N and talk is that the next model will have Firewire inplace of USB due to transfer rate and almost perfect digitization transfer without media removal. I got rid of my Sony 608 DV camcorder because of the USB. Took all night just to upload then edit. Even then when being captured, frames would drop like rain. This Sony DCR-VX2000 w/iLink is phenominal and transferring is a breeze with no dropped frames. Now if they can make editing and DVD burning software that's quick as well! Nikon is also talking about integrating Firewire in there next gen of cameras. FYI from what I've heard through the grapevine.

Well its kind of about some meathead bodybuilder who cant get a camera to work when he has Paul Dillet in his house...I vote the thread stays riiiight here...plus no offense, Im just kidding around

I have yet to see a digital camera that needs the transfer rate of firewire...Shit USB is 10X faster then an IDE bus.

How is 6mbit faster than 100+MB/s? Firewire is faster than USB, USB is slow as shit, thats why USB real time PC cameras are so damn choppy.
