Currently i can only do 9 in a row from dead hang. How do I get to like 20+? thanks guys.

IMHO..... once you get to ten reps....start adding weight. Even if its only 5 or 10 lbs. Adding the weight (depending on how much weight you add) will bring your reps down to about 7 or 8 or even 6 reps and then start working back up to ten reps. Once you get back to ten reps again, add some more weight and work back up to ten reps again. etc. etc. I`m not sure why you would want to do 20 rep chins unless you have a specific or personal goal.

Also...... I found that an easy way to hold extra weight when doing weighted chins is to put on a lifting belt and set the belt to its loosest fit and slip a small dumbell between the belt and your stomach. The handle of the dumbell fits and sits nicely inside the belt and the weighted end of the dumbell keeps it from slipping out of the belt. But once you get to using respectable poundages this way of holding a dumbell will be uncomfortable if not impossible. Of course if you have access to a belt specifically made for holding weight all the better Bro.

I tried that. It was effective in making my muscles bigger and stronger (esp in back), but it will not help you get to 20.

Look at the method in my link. Debaser referred me to it initially.

thanks for the link, and the suggestions guys- will try them out today. Dave I want to do like 20 rep chins becuz I want to try out for the army out of highschool, and maybe some day make it into the special forces.

I may be a bit late with this one- Arnold said the way to do it was to do 50 of them every time, even if you can't fit them all into your set scheme. You'll be pulling ones and twos at the end at first. I did this when I switched grips. Not really too embarrassing and I showed improvement every week. It'll make your back basically stronger than it was.

O.K. bro....Now I understand. You DO have a specific goal.
I would be challenged to give any good advice because I have never practiced or tried to do 20 rep chins so I have no experience to share with you Bro. The link Synpax shared sounds interesting. However.....I would imagine aside from working chins directly, possibly working on high rep muscular endurance/strength using pull downs where you can actually adjust the weight so you CAN do 15 - 20 reps per set and strengthen the lats in that specific rep range upping the weight as your high rep strength/endurance improves.
Wish you the very best with the army thing Yarg ....... :)

^^ Just finished reading the article in the link. Sorry for the repeat. Interesting that they both came up with the same approach, though.
