how do i get a virus out?

my sister downloaded some shit 3 months ago and it had a virus and i found it today and when i try to delete it ,and error comes up and says "Access denied : the source file may be in use."


what can i do???????????????

nothin can be done other than re-installing your operating system which in turn will erase a bunch of your shit.It sucks bigtim,it just happened to me you should ask creep though,he seem to be somewhat knowledgeable about computers.

Do you know the name of the virus? or the file thats infected?

the virus name is win32.hillm.choke49152 and the file name is PIC1324(1)(1)(1)

why do you think this file is a virus? did an antivirus detect it?

What OS are you using. The file is most likely running in the backround even though you can't see it. If you look in msconfig (start-----run---type msconfig) , I'm sure you'll find something like it running in the startup tab. Just uncheck it, reboot and then try to delete it

the anti-virus should've gave you an option to remove the virus or quarantine the file. I've downloaded virus before while surfing the web. My anti-virus always detects them and quarantines them before my PC gets infected. Just cus you downloaded a virus doesn't't necessarily mean you got infected. Which anti-virus are you running?

To get rid of it, just email it to all your friends.

Seriously, try this. right click on the file.
select "properties"
click the "securites" tab
click the "advanced" bar
select "administrator" account
click "view/edit"
click the "clear all" bar at the bottom
click ok
click ok
click "apply"
click "ok"

Now try to delete the file.
This applies to Windows 2000, by the way.

This virus is not dangerous in any way. It's sole purpose is to spread. You got it through Messenger (thinking it was a picture) from someone who's PC is infected.

Now that he knows the name of the file he can do that. He also needs to remove it from the registry.
