why would you avoid exercises that strengthen Hip flexors??

Strength and size of a muscle have nothing to do with its flexability

You can stretch your hip flexors by basically simulating a lunge movement. Just get your knee to the floor and hold for ten seconds or so. And for strength, pretty much any leg raise excercise will work, and real lunges of course.

But yeah, why avoid them?

they are already sitting in a hypercontracted state. with a strong AND tight hip flexor, the glutes are inhibited, which is the primary stabilizer of the pelvic region. so to put it in more simple terms, if your hip flexors are contracted, you cant fire off your glutes. think what this means for squatting.

a good functional stretch would be a lunge. nice and deep. just make sure you fire off your glute of the leg you are stretching, it will intensify the stretch. also you can stretch rectus femoris and your quads in the standard standing quad stretch but fire off that glute again of the leg that is up, you'll know you hit your hip flexors (just to illustrate my point)

I did lunges for the first time last Monday and those damn things were SORE!! (A good sore).

i reason i said what exericses i should avoid was becos i have lordosis and i read somewhere else about somesones post to correct the problem.. and in a reply it was said that

ABDOMINAL work is necessary, but not lower back work. glutes and hams need to be worked but not hip flexors. otherwise it will exaggerate his condition.

so it says i shouldnt be working out my lowerback or hip flexors

My father is greatly overweight and has back problems. What did the doc tell him to do? Stay off his feet, keep his feet elevated, and don't do anything that might put any stress on his back...period.

Was the doc right? NOPE. He should be walking, strengthening his abs and lower back, hips, hams, etc...and losing weight.

Docs are not always right...just as not all advice is right. Saying that you should not strengthen any muscle is bad advice.

Do additional stretching of your hips, hamstrings, and lower back.

You should also strengthen your transverse abs - they are the key here.

Hip flexor work won't exaggerate the condition - you need them to be more flexible. If they're stronger and more flexible, that's a bonus.

There is also no reason not to work your lower back. However, in terms of proportional strength increases, you need to make sure that you bring your transverse abs up to speed...

...also, make sure you get this problem under control ASAP.

Bad posture and an undesirable pelvis tilt can be disasterous if not corrected.
