House mold, anyone ever have a problem with it?

Every now and then I get a little mold inside the house, usually on wood trim, in closets, or under the bathroom counters. Its nothing major and it cleans up easy enough but it's a pain to keep after it. My house gets moist air from the forest and I don't have central air, so with the windows open in the summertime it occasionally gets damp in the house. Plus my carpets are 30 years old, they are getting replaced soon but I think I'm gonna get central air installed first.

Anyway, I was doing some research over lunch today and learned that mold can be a HUGE problem in households. Man, I saw pictures of real nightmares, read stories of people burning down their house to kill the mold problem. I thought I had it rough until I learned what a real mold problem is. Has anyone here ever had a problem with this?

never had to deal with it, but i have heard it can cause some serious health effects. good luck.

Never had a mold problem, but how about getting a dehumidifier or two?

Yeah, we got one about a year ago and run it now and then. It helps alot, but right now I have a small leak in the chimney whenever it rains hard that brings moisture into the house. Also I haven't run the dehumidifier in awhile, the house chores have taken a back seat lately. The chimney is getting re-pointed this winter, that will cure the leak. Once I get CA installed and new carpets this should be a non-issue.

Apparently house mold is a common problem though, I just never realized it.

yes it is a common problem, there are some sprays and powders to put down kinda like a pre-emerg for grass to prevent weeds, you just sprinkle on carpets, spray woods and youll be good too go, we havent bought any in along while but it helps out

When I bought my house, the ventillation system had really bad mold.

Paid about 200 bones to get it sterilized. And every year I get it cleaned for about 100 bones.

I've been considering putting some kind of mold/dust device/filter into my house. Haven't honestly looked into it.

But I hear that most illnesses ceom from household mold.

We used to live on property with tons of huge oaks shading the house.
Battled mold all the time mostly outside on the house walls and some inside.
New house has little shade so it's not so much a problem..

Running the AC and keeping windows closed all Spring-Summer-early Fall
and using a good allergen filter in the AC are ways to CONTROL mold.

Running a vent fan in the bathroom anytime a shower/bath is taken and for a few min after.

Spraying all hard surfaces especially in the kichen and bathrooms with bleach solution occasionally helps

You can't ever let your guard down.. Yes, there are some toxins released by molds

ya my house has a issue in the basement but my parents rent and the landlord wont do anything so we are kinda fucked unless my dad gets the health board involved

it started because the basement leaked and rotted all the panelling etc, made out basement a storeage area now and nothing more

I get it in the winter around my windows....just use some bleach/cleaner and get rid of it...I think most of the problems occur from Black Mold...which is the deadly stuff...floods and other water damage seem to bing this on

Heh, you must get condensation on the inside of your windows in the winter. The dehumidifier helps that but doesn't eliminate it for me.
