Hopeless genetics ?

I just have a simple question. Can the presence of excess visceral fat (fat that surrounds your organs as opposed to subcutaneous fat which lies just under the skin) keep the ab muscles from showing? I've been eating properly, and exercising and can really notice the fat melting throughout my body. My bf is 11.9% as of a week ago. I can't help feeling hopeless that for all my efforts genetics will fuck me over in the end.

No, the visceral fat lies under the ab muscles. You just need to get leaner for them to show through. At the very worst you could end up with a distended 6-pack kinda like a lot of the Olympia guys who look like they swallowed a basketball even though they're ripped.

My abs are terribly distended and my waist is really thick (even when I'm lean). They're my genetics - I hate them, but I don't have a choice.

Its not always possible to have the EXACT body you want, but you can get pretty close if you do the right things and put the effort in...
