hooking up normal speakers to your comp?

CollegeKid

New member
alright so i have two extra mitsubishi speakers left over from a home entertainment system, and i think it'd be pretty pimp if i could hook em up to my comp. right now i just have the standard harman/kardon computer speakers hooked up to the subwoofer, which is then hooked up to my laptop. any of you tech savy guys know if it's possible to hook up non-comp speakers to your comp?

yep, I'm doing that with a system hooked up to my TV. For some loud sound, run the computer signal through an amplifier, if you have one.

so all i gotta do is get an amplifier at radio shack or something? cuz the big speakers i want to use use those speaker wires, which will definitely not hook up to the sub i got now (the sub only has hookups for the comp-speaker plugs, none of those twisty things that attach normal speaker wiring). if you cant tell im pretty retarded when it comes to this kinda stuff. help a brotha out.

Another thing....

Be sure of a few things....

Most stereo speakers need an amp to work on a computer....sound card doesn't put out enough juice. Computer speakers are often powered with a built-in amp for that purpose.

Keep stereo speakers far enough from the computer and monitor. Computer speakers have magnetic shielding so they don't adversely impact the computer or monitor. Stereo speakers may or may not have this shielding.
