Honey post-workout?

Stiffler

I think I heard Gymtime talking about this once,,,,honey mixed in with your post-workout protein shake for carbs.....is this any good? why or why not?
thanks

I am not sure honey is the best choice
honey = fructose + glucose (and fructose is not a good carb for post workout)

1/2 dextrose (glucose) + 1/2 maltodextrin should be a better choice

Honey is a good choice, after your work out, your muscles need something to burn quickly (high carbs) and something with dextrose. So even if honey is a big source of glucides, your muscles gonna burn it in 15-20 minutes.

A read in a Men's Health (*ducks*) publication that honey is great for restoring muscle glycogen after workouts.

anthrax's answer is correct, though honey is better than nothing, but i would go with dextrose or maltodextrin, and they are both cheap so price isnt an issue (10% for 11lb bucket of dextrose).

That was my thinking at the time. I didn't know about dextrose and figured honey would be better than pure sugar. I figured it like SM did, simple carbs are simple carbs. But soon as I start cutting again, I'm going with the dextrose. Although I'm not real sure on the dosage either. I'd go with what the package says Stiffy.

I think it's rather precious how everyone buys into the whole 'oh ANYTHING you can buy at the grocery's bad for you, you really need the little chemical carb we're selling'

I'm having a banana, an apple and a spoonfull of honey on my post workout protein shake for years and I've not noticed any huge disasters on my physique. Geez!

im starting to feel the same way, i've been taking every supp it seems like for the past year or so and im sure not growing like I want too.

I wish I knew for certain that protein is worth while:rolleyes:
because im getting sick of buying protein powder every month on a college buget:( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Ive also read somewhere that theirs enzymes in honey that also make it a good option post workout. I still do the dextrose thing, but i used to use honey and it worked good for me

The disadvantages of honey as far as fructose are probably balanced out by the extra nutrients. Go for it.

I use to buy a ton of stuff to help me out - now I buy whatever is on sale (creatine, protein powder, MRP's). I don't stick with one brand - I think they are all the same and do the same thing - and just stick with the basics - and I've noticed some gains with just 6 small meals a day and no extra pills and supplements.

I made a protein bar made of Honey, natural peanut butter and protein powder - would this be good for a post workout food or does it have to be a liquid post workout drink?:(
