Homemade protein pudding

Don't know if this has been posted before but so I thought I would:

1 packet of instant pudding (sugar and fat free if not bulking)
2-3 scoops of protein powder
2tbs creamy peanut butter
2 cups milk preferably skim
Mix all together and let chill

I used vanilla pudding and chocolate protein, tastes VERY good, just like reese's peanut butter cups. Enjoy and if you try it let me know what variations you tried and how you liked it.

I just made this & put it in the freezer. Gonna see if it's like ice cream at all

Post up how it turns out!! :p

Sounds REAL good!!

FYI, if you are sensitive to sugar substitutes I wouldn't reccomend using the sugaer free, fat free pudding mixes. I apparently have a sensitivity and acquired a killer headach. Food for thought

I do the same with white chocolate sugar-free, fat-free pudding mix, Whey Gourmet low-carb vanilla royalle ice cream flavored protein, and natural peanut butter. It is so yummy!!!!:p

I have never tried it frozen though I`ll have to check back to see the results.

This is NOT good when it is completely frozen.

But it is damn good when it's half frozen & you stir it all up.

So if you totally freeze it, wait until it's sort of thawed

Or, stick it in the freezer for 45 min - 1 hour & eat it then

Thanks for the idea :)

Can you guys name any brands of pudding mix? I live in the UK and i've been to some superstores and there's nothing that's called a pudding mix - i take it isn't the same as a jelly mix?

Nope, not the same as a jelly mix, the most popular brand of pudding is either Jello pudding or Kraft pudding, both domestic in the States. I was not aware that pudding hasn't recieved national recognition. I just buy the brand made by the grocery store I do my shopping at for under a buck a box. If you are unable to find the mix then you can make it from scratch:

Chocolate Pudding for 2 (recipe from package)

1. In quart (liter) bowl, combine 1 Tbs (15ml) mix, 2 Tbs (15-30ml) unsweetened cocoa, 1/8 tsp salt, breaking up all lumps.

2. Whisk in 3/4 cup (180ml) cold water until no lumps left.

3. Microwave until boiling, stirring frequently (or cook on stove top, stirring constantly).

4. Whisk in 1/4 cup (60ml) cream (or sour cream, coconut milk, etc.); flavor and sweeten to taste (start with 1 tsp vanilla plus 2-3 Tbs sugar equivalent, or 2-3 Tbs sugar-free syrup).

5. Serve warm or refrigerate, covered.

Suggestions: add egg yolk and/or butter for richness; replace part or all the water with coffee or fruit juice; add chopped nuts or coconut.

Per serving (using 2 Tbs cocoa and 4 Tbs heavy cream to make 2 servings):

Nutrition* (calculated by Mastercook): 145 calories; 11.7g fat; 6.3g carb (of which 3.5g is fiber); 3.9g protein--also provides 9% of Vit A and 16% of iron Daily Values *based on no-calorie sweetener

Good luck and be sure to let us know how it turned out! :Chef:

ok i've run into a problem - what is in this 15ml of "mix" ? i can't believe we don't have it. we probably have it under a different name and i'm just being a dumbass. does pudding mix have a stodgy texture or is it like fluffy cream?

Pudding mix is usually a powder that comes in a box.

Pudding has a different connotation in the US versus UK (kind of like, a flat is what happens to a tire in the US and a flat is a place you live in the UK, or a rubber in the UK means eraser and in the US it means condom).

Anyway, pudding in the US means (I think) custard in the UK -- the homemade from scratch version is a thickened, sweet, egg yolk based dish, cooked down and then chilled, has about the consistency of yogurt. The prepackaged version comes in a powder form, you mix it with milk and chill until it sets up :)

Ah, thanks :)

here in the uk we have custard, which is a kind of heavy runny consistency, and another thing that's similar but slightly lighter, called angel delight/dream topping. while you can get custard both in liquid and powder form, you only really purchase the latter in the powder form.

looks like i bought the right thing last night then - it's setting in the fridge right now :) cheers for the help
