Can you connect a powered subwoofer to the RCA outputs on the back my t.v...or do I need a amp? The guys at radio shack could not give me a straight answer.

i went straight to the back of the TV. my manual says i can use an amp if i want but i dont need to

seeing as you bought it at radio shack,and the fact that you need rca's on your sub,I assume it's not of high quality.My Boston acoustic,and Energy subs only have inputs for speaker wire.If you have a powered sub,you don't need an amp.

ok now my question :D

if u have the surround speakers set up, should they all be producing sound if the TV is on or only the front ones

my centre and 2 rear speakers dont work but are connected as they make thayt very slight hum all speakers do when they are on

It depends on whether the film/show/DVD/VHS etc are Dolby surround sound.

if its just TV on its own, i.e. normal broadcast?

if you have a reciever(which you should)There is a test option that goes through each of the speakers one ata time to make sure they are all connected correctlly.You'll hear only static coming through one speaker at a time.But yeah,what 2 thick said.

cool!

thanks guys :)

Surround does not mean surrounding yourself with speakers...

5.1 = surround. If you:

1. Don't know what 5.1 means
2. Don't have a 5.1 capable receiver
3. Are not watching a program that supports 5.1

then you DON"T FUCKIN HAVE SURROUND......
