How hard would it be to smooth out spackle?

i have a couple small 'bulkheads' that are spackled to match my ceiling, however I want to smooth them out so I can paint them.

I imagine it would be pretty simple... sand it down, smooth it with Wall Compound, then sand it again.

This sound right?
Any advice? Tips? hints?

Scrape it off with a wide drywall knife then eat it all up.

Usually if you scrape it off, the wall (ceiling) is smooth enough to paint. You may have to sand a few places, but typically all the sanding/compound/sanding/repeating isn't neccessary.

How do you know this?
You just guessing or do you have real experience?

I did alot of the work in my house. I redid the whole thing. But when it came to spackle I ultimately had to get my buddy to finish it.

If you`ve never done it before it can be tricky. I guess it depends on the room and how great you want it to look.

Just saying it sounds easier than it is. But my job was from new sheetrock, So yours may be different. good luck

I remodeled my house.

All the stuff is is spakle they spray over drywall (sheetrock). Unless you have some funky ceiling that is.

I've used a drywall knife to scrape the spakle off. However, I didn't paint afterwards like you are planning. I had to reapply new spakle in my case.

However once the spakle was off, it could easily have been painted.

HINT: be sure to seal off the room and remove everything. This stuff get's messy.

No, maybe YOU misunderstood!
What you really wanted to do was add the spakle now wasn't it, Creampuff?!

You talking about mudding and taping?

I think you scared him away. That sounds like he might be off the couch for a while if he had to do all that.

I don`t know what a "bulk head" is. Are they the large beams that hold your ceilings up?

Anyway, If you "Compound, then sand it again." Then you would be "spackling". That IS harder than it sounds. Especially if you have alot of sanding to do. (thickness)

like MANY things in life, this is harder than it looks.

i TRIED to patch a small place on one wall; wound up texturizing the whole room to make it look uniform.

Hell yeah it is.
I built a closet and was my 1st attempt at drywall. Those joints are a bitch! Thank goodness there is never much light in this particular room.:)

understand, AAP........i built a 20 X 24 garage, deceided to tape and float and texturize it......the walls came out ok, but the ceiling.....OOF!!!!!!!!! :(

walking thru home depot or lowes; the sight of a can of mud makes me gag still!

Just hire some one brolly. Look in the phone book for a small one line company and call until you find one in your area...they probably do this for $50-$150 and be done with it, then you can paint or whatever.

Always let grunts do the grunt work.

Yeah bit if its just a matter of sanding it smooth then I may as well do it myself.

And :finger: to pharm for that couch comment, no matter how true it may be.
