Home Gym

Okay, so I'm new to this site. Just looking for some advice. Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this thread. But anyways, I've been wanting to get something to work out at home, but I don't really know what is both affordable and efficient. I want something that'll give great results and will show. I was refered to this home gym, but I wanted to get a 2nd opinion before investing on it:

York Home Gym

I'm 20, and don't really ever work out (I guess my job gives me a bit of a work out, but not much), and am wanting to change that. I weight about 150lbs and would be using this atleast 6 days a week. I've never owned anything like this before, so I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this department haha; keep that in mind. Anyways, any feedback would be greatly appriciated.

York Home Gym

Fixed the link for you... I personally have found that home gyms limit the extent of your workout, muscle groups worked vs. freeweights. If having a home gym is your only option vs. going to a club, Im sure this is better then nothing. As far as this particular piece of equipment go's youll have to ask somebody else because I usually just use free weights. Thats my opinion anyhow...

Forget about the link! And forget about the York multi-station!

BUY A FRIGGIN BARBEL!

get a bench and some dumbells, and maybe a floor mat.

The best money spent will be at some big discount sports store where you get a one or two hundred pound set of weights and a bench with some supports.

Machines (especially home machines) are NOT the way to go! If anyone disagrees with me then I'll have to come over there and litterally kick the shit out of them!
(obviously joking about the kicking, but just so you know how strongly I feel about this!)

I'd wait and buy something substantial and freeweight-based. I think you can definitely get a tremendous workout at home, but NOT from a machine such as what was linked above.

A power rack (preferably w/ a chin attachment), olympic bb set, and a bench (preferably adjustable but def. doesn't have to be) would get you as far as a commercial gym could. It has to do with your training- shitty training in a gym gets trumped by good training on limited equipment any day.

EDIT: thsi setup doesn't need to be all that pricey either. It'll COST more than 200 bones but it'll be WORTH infinitely more

Thanks for the replies guys. So yeah, I think I'm gonna ditch that Home Gym and go with some of what has been stated above. Thanks for all the input! More is welcome.

basic bodysolid rack (with pins, not the one with sliders) and a 315lb oly set. Maybe some dbs later and a shrug bar, dip stands and a box for squatting. You won't need anything else for 5 years (except hopefully a new pair of 45's every xmas :))

That is definitely what I would get Tweakle, but if I had never worked out before and was not 100%, and did not want to dedicate a whole room to it, I'd just get a cheap JC Penny barbel and dumbell set. Besides - that kind of set up lasted me well for the first 6 months...

ALSO why not the rack with sliders?

Because I said so!

:)

nah, I tried it and it didnt feel as secure as the pin locking one.. maybe just a crappy display model. Thats pretty much what I had in my home gym and some of the best workouts of my life were in the garage with the spiders

LOL! Yeah me too, reminds me of when I was 16 years old with not a clue what I was doing but it all felt completely right: those 3 hour sessions of pumping my Dad's rusty old weights from the 70's until my veins stood out like Frankenstein's plumbing and the spiders the size of my hand watched from the shadows with hate filled admiration...
