What do you bitches suggest? I'd like it to be 18 or as close to the california legal limit on length as possible.

get a decent, pump-action, 12 guage (3"-3.5") shotgun.

mossberg and benelli make some quality ones, but if you are worried about price, pick up a charles daly.

Actually, I wouldn't mind a solid black shotgun either - probably better for the home because it's probably harder to see in the dark?

Benelli semi-auto. Holds 8 rounds. The collapsable butt-stock makes it ideal for inclose maneuvering.

That Benelli mentiomed above will set you back $800. The Winchester will run about $150-$250....

LMAO. Mossbergs are the Hyndai of shotguns - comparing them to a Benelli is like comparing a ford escort to a Ferrari. Note the Benelli Nova is a piece of crap however in the field (way overated) - go for a Winchester or Remington for a reliable decent shotgun at nice price.

who was comparing them? i just said both benelli and mossberg make good shotguns. it's the same as saying glock and kimber make good handguns. just because one cost more does not necessarily mean the other is a piece of shit, calhoun.

I'm really familiar with field SGs since I have hunted my whole life and owned several shotguns. Mossberg 835 is near the bottom of my list - however, I also think Benelli is overated, especially for the $$$ they charge - Italian engineering my ass. They are a PIA to gunsmith and not all that reliable in the field (at least the Nova based on my experience). However, since the original question was home defense shotgun I guess just about any short barreled SG is fine as long as it does not jam up (note most barrels less than '18 are illegal in most states). I think the Mossberg 590 or 500 comes with 18 or 20 inch barrels and pistol grips for the riot gun effect, so for HD you might be right it would be a good choice, but I friggin hate their field shotguns IMO they are a POS.
 
For my apartment, I keep a mossberg 500A, with an 18" barrel, a pistol grip stock, and the grip on the slide replaced with an aftermarket pistol grip slide, by the headboard of my bed.

I usually have in it, 6 3" 12 gauge magnums with #4 shot with a max dram eq.

Might be the type of round. You'll definatly want to stay away from the Buck shots though.

That is why I use #4 shot. More then enough to cut a man in half, but I don't have to deal with an overpenetration issue living in an apartment with neighbors in close proximity.
 
I really thing all of the major American brands would be fine.

Home defense does not take a world class skeet gun.

Shorter barrel is better.

One thing to consider though. After Bush wins you will have your very own FBI agent stopping in periodically. He will prolly own a key to your pad for convenience.

So ask him. Agents know about these things.

If you have a class III license you can get a 14" legally, but they will not sell it to you at a store otherwise. Is it used?
