i state my opinion all the time. my religious views are fairly close to lestat's and I've stated that- as he can tell you, a lot of people consider them controversial.
and I'm about as liberal as one can get.
I don't take shit from anyone either, but the truth is, i'm not really given shit all that often. not always, but usually if i find an arguement is starting, and its less than mature... i bow out. I don't want to be a part of it and since I don't care to personally attack, i won't respond to it either, or i'll respond to it minimally to set the record straight.
perpetuating it, then firing that the other person is an immature ass because 'they started it', makes everyone equally as guilty, but it makes one of them less mature for not even acknowledging it.
