I am a 34 year old HIV+ male (6'2", 190 lbs & ~14% BF), and I am interested in getting into shape (my dream would be a magazine model, but that I know that is probably unrealistic for me). Although I have been + for over six years now, I only started medication about two years ago. My doctor has me on Isentress & Truvada, and I am doing very well on those. I am undetectabe and have no side effects from my meds. I haven't experienced any muscle loss / fat redistribution either, and I am grateful for this.
I started working out about a year ago, and I have been seriously hitting the gym for the last nine months. I have gone up about 10 pounds over the last 6 months. Not huge gains by any means, but I did it as a beginner with diet, exercise and protein shakes. I have read that I shouldn't be using anything harder until I spend another year or so in the gym to get more experience and so forth. I am not dying to use something that I'm not necessarily prepared for.
After reading some of the comments on this forum, I am getting a little scared that I should be building significantly more muscle because of the sudden weight loss that can come on at any time. Is this true? The last time I saw my doctor, he didn't want me gaining much more weight just because I might not look right in 10 years (yes, it sounded BS to me too).
Another thing is that he generally wants to keep me off of most supplements (protein is fine; creatine is not) saying that he doesn't want to have anything interact with my meds. Should I be cautious picking up even "natural" supplements (Forma Stanzol and other testosterone boosters)?
Thanks for reading my post.
