Who really helped Pol Pot/the Khmer Rouge take power in Cambodia in the 70s?

Communist China (where Sihanouk was in exile), North Vietnam (the Viet Minh, at least in the beginning), Thailand and the US (by bombing Cambodia, helping the right wing Lon Nol government and - this point is controversial - financing indirectly the KR regime) ???

I went to see Dith Pran speak after he escaped Cambodia, it was moving.

What this guy did is astounding

Where are the EF historians?

I think a lot of leftist would like to blame Nixon's bombing campaign for the KR's eventual success.
Personally I don't remember enough of what I've read regarding the issue to maintain a strong opinion one way or another.
I do believe if I was in Nixon's position Loas, Cambodia, and South Vietnam would never have fallen to the communists, because I would have invaded and conquered North Vietnam after China and the Soviet Union had there falling out in the early 70's.

The Domino effect was a ridiculous neo-cons invention

That proved itself true.

Absolutely not

Communism which was supposed to spread across Southeast Asia never materialized

Eisenhower 's domino theory may have been somewhat valid but it then became a way to justify the actions the US took to protect their economic and political influence in SE Asia

South Vietnam fell to communism, followed by Cambodia, and Loa (3 domino's). Thailand had the time to build up their security forces to stop it from happening to them.
What economic intrest did the U.S. have in S.E. Asia? None.
I'm through discussing events that happened 30 + years ago!
