Hip Pain While Doing Leg Curls!

Every time I try to do leg curls or anything kinda like it I have extreme hip pain in what seems the gluteus medius & minimus. It happens no matter what weight I use unless I can do it probably over 30 times. Sometimes it happens in squats mostly with lighter weight, but not that often. I have always had this problem and just stayed away from them, but now I'm wondering what would cause this and how I could fix it?

You need to stretch your hips and piriformis. Don't let this problem persist because it can and will cause an injury. Plus it hinders performance. I have a thread titled "Warm Up Your Hips with the Agile 8". If it's not on the first page it is on the second of this forum. Find that thread and it will surely help you.

Yeah I read it and watched the video yesterday actually, but will that stop the pain? I used to stretch quite often, but have always had the problem.
Thanks!!

I can't say for sure if it will stop your pain, but it will certainly help. You should be doing some mobility work weekly. Especially of you are training WSB. Box squats will tear up your hips and glutes. You need to take care of them.

I just started Box squatting frequently and I guess that's a good thing and about 1 - 3 days a week depending on recovery. Sometimes I'll throw in a set or 2 during upper body day if I'm feeling good.

If stretching doesn't work, SEE A PHYSIO.

I can't see how hamstring curls would hurt you and squats and deadlifts wouldn't, as particularly in proper form low bar squats, the hips as opposed to the knees bears most the load

I was wondering the same thing, but it's just not leg curls it's anything that holds my legs in one place and requires me to bend knees down. I'll try other stuff tonight between sets and see what hurts and doesn't.

So have u only tried lying down leg curls then - ur post is ambiguous on the point, but your statement above appears to infer it.

Tried seated leg curls? They are better anyway - per abcbodybuilding.com, your hamstrings are more ability to be recruited in their flexion function if the hip is in a flexed position.

I would try stretching for ten minutes before doing leg exercises. A friend of mine is older (52), but he uses a warming cream sometimes when faced with a similar problem when we do squats. So is this an on going problem? How long have you noticed this; was it since you first started training legs? Did injure yourself that you were aware of, feel any sudden pain ever? It happens on both sides? If it happens on both, I would def. say stretching should help, and warmup with super light weight for a few sets after that. Let us know what happens!

Well it's way worse on the right than left. I thought it did it while doing anything similar to leg curls and I wanted to make sure and I was right. Happens while doing anything seated or laying down which holds my legs in place and even a bit on hypers which I tried today just to see. Weird thing is it doesn't really do it while doing the hip abductor machine which I added because I thought it might help the problem. The first time it happened was the begging of football 9th grade I think after practice was when it started getting really bad. I remember my hips especially my right hurting so bad I was nearly crying and that's something I don't do especially not because of pain. I never told anyone but my mom and it went on like that for 2 or 3 days up until we had the weekend off. Just never put it together because I didn't think that would have caused it, but I guess I could definitely have been wrong . I don't really stretch anymore or at least no up until yesterday after reading the posts, but in the past I always did for around 20 min every workout, but I never did anything besides free weights because of the pain. I'll start stretching more and see if that helps any, but my main concern is if it will get worse making any leg movement hurt?

Sounds like something may have healed improperly. If you stretch sufficiently and it still hurts on the first rep, something's not right, and you should have a doc look at it, that's what I would do.

I'll try stretching and see, but I doubt it because of past experiences. As for the doc that will have to be put on hold because of debt and I have a feeling I know what he's gonna tell me. There is only 1 time in my life I'm glad I went to a doctor and that's when I got staff on my ankle and thought it was sprained.
