Who is taking 5g of vitamin C a day ?

A new study out of the US find that high doses of vitamin C increase the severity of spontaneous knee osteoarthritis in an animal model of the disease.

"It is possible that brief exposure to high levels of vitamin C offers antioxidant effects with a minimum of side effects, while prolonged exposure results in deleterious effects," Kraus is reported as saying. A randomised, controlled clinical trial in humans would be required to definitely resolve the issue of vitamin C dosing, she added.

Full findings of the study are published in the June 2004 issue of Arthritis & Rheumatism.

i take 20 grams of vitamin C on an empty stomach to go to the bathroom......works nicely.... other than that 1000mg a day

When I am sick---I take in a rediculous amount of Vitamin C---usually will drink around a gallon and a half of Orange Juice plus I pop Vitamin C like its candy---always makes me feel better

well it isnt candy

I just laughed out loud when I read that shit.

Not candy folks - a water soluable vitamin.

You're probably safe at <10g daily.
Ideal dose is probably more like 1-3g.

According to a physician I spoke with (specialist), based on my body weight (218lbs), anything over 4g (4000mg) is likely too much and counterproductive to what vit. C is supposed to be doing for me.

Occasional overdosing (up to 10g) like when your sick likely will have little or no long term effects. On a DAILY/WEEKLY basis, no more than 4g though.

Thing is though, GPs tend to be idiots when it comes to this stuff and tell you things like "2g of protien a day is WAAAAAY too much", etc.

GPs basically know Sweet Fuck All about gaining mass cause their info is based on the "general" population which takes into account your average couch potato. Sports medicine is likely a better place for info.

be careful here guys.

Im a graduate student in public health and have seen more studies that arent worth a shit than are. You have to remember they are only telling something that will make them look good. You have to get into the numbers and see how they conducted the studies. Plus, dont forget statisticians and epidemiologists will crunch numbers 24/7/365 until they find something, many times it has little importance.
