This is a geography...what's it like question.

Oakland Hills, California...the east bay of San Francisco Bay area

Does anyone know it?? Is it a decent area? My son is in talks with a Div 2 university there...it's the best offer we've had and he really wants to go to Cali.

I can google and see pics etc...but any real life experience? Inside scoop??

I don't know about Oakland Hills, but Oakland and surrounding east bay areas are generally very high crime, with high murder and rape statistics.

You'd be better sending him to another state, California isn't anything like Hollywood makes it look like

Not many nor cal peps on this board.
By Claremont ? Or rock ridge?

Hnu?

Oakland is hard place to generalize about. I recently drove from SF to Napa, and crossed th Oakland Bay bridge, which has spectacular views, then saw industrial shipyards, then beautiful mansions, a refinery, horse property, etc. A couple of miles can mean a huge difference around there.

Dammit

Thanks for all the feedback. We've spent lots of time in Southern California but not that area. We'll see what the money is like I guess and go from there. He's young and his mom thinks he should take a year off. ;)

I found it. Asking my buddy who used to live in the city.

Thanks! Honestly, he'd likely do better to stay in Canada and could get a full ride here and then not have to deal with "international tuition". He's got the USA college stars in his eyes though. I told him he should just go to England then...likely less money! lol

This one has the academic program too so had to ask about the area.

Yeah I would say England over US and Canada. I thoroughly enjoyed all the time I spent in England except the trip w the x wife.

Really, she got drunk and embarrassed the shit out of both of us and I was with some very cool business associates. Then she took off on a drunken mad disappearing act in Piccadilly Square it took me two hours to find her. She didn't have a room key or any way of knowing where we were staying. We were stating as guests of this company and they have a private hotel just for their own clientele. She fucked up a lot more than that but that is all that needs to be posted here.

Yikes!! Sounds brutal!

Mark Twain said the coldest Winter he ever saw was the Summer he spent in San Francisco. After you visit there you know what he meant; the wind comes off the Bay and 60 degrees feels like 40.

San Francisco/Oakland is also a high cost of living area. But it's only for 4 years so finances and the academic strength of the program he's looking at should dictate the school.

Does that make you a soccer mom or a football mom?

I guess that makes me a soccer mom but the visual that creates just makes me cringe!

And apparently the correct term is "footy" or so I'm told lol

It's hockey moms that make me cringe :)

They're brutal!! And you can always pick them out at the soccer games. They're the ones screaming at everyone and dropping f bombs to the refs

Volva? What's wrong with yours?

Olololololololol

Anyone kills my boy, you'll be reading about me in the paper!

Just sayin'
