Hey tennis players....

I started playin a couple of months ago(which now I rule all)

How do you know when it's time to restring your racket??

Yesterday while I was playin I noticed a sorta "twang" hard to explain the exact sound.

After that the racket felt kinda different but that could have been all in my head. No strings were broke or felt loose though.

Also did you see Agassi kick that dudes ass the other day at Wimbledon? That guy was getting so pissed he broke his racket.:D

yeah, but it sounds like that almost everytime though.

How often should I get it restrung though??

I never restrung my rackets til they actually broke, you can usually tell when they're on the verge of breaking when u see deep cuts in the string. I dunno about the whole twanging sound... mb just adjust the strings a bit, unless something breaks it, which usually doesnt happen til your at a higher level, I see no reason to get it restrung.

Now you can get the 10SNE1 vanity plates and not look stupid. As far as restringing your racket, its best to let the pro shop make that determination for you. Eventually you will start to see when it needs to be restrung for yourself.

Did you buy the racket with strings already in it or did you buy the frame and have it strung separately? If you bought it with strings then get it restrung.

If you play regularly, you will notice the strings becoming a bit brittle right before they need to be changed. Some of it depends on whether they are gut, synthetic, topspin strings, etc. . . . If the racket has been sitting around for a couple of years before you started playing recently, I'd definitely recommend getting it restrung.

Also, you might consider getting one of those vibrasorb thingies to lace across the strings near the handle. Those significantly cut down on the vibrations on mishits so you don't get that "twangggg" feel. http://www.midwest-sports.com/cgi-php/store.php?search=yes&category=195&and=0&catname=vibdamp

brittle.. That's the word I was thinking of. The strings sound brittle.

If that makes sense at all, and yes the racket was prestrung when I bought it.

Unless you are a pro and have your racquet strung to very specific tensions and use alot of top spin when you play, it shouldn't realy need a re-string.

Speaking of top spin, thats gotta be the hardest shit to learn.

Haven't quite gotten the angle right yet.

top spin is a big time wrist movement, just practice flicking the racket using just your wrist, almost like pouring out a glass of water but in fast motion. You usually end up shanking the ball a lot but once you get the hang of it you will be owning on the courts.

yeah, its a very frustrating shot to perfect.

I've got most of the other shots down, really good back hand,
good serve.

I love this game now.

Topspin shouldn't be a big time wrist movement it's more about legs. If you start low on your ground strokes and rise into the hit, the racket has a natural bottom to top action. That action, combined with tilting the racket forward slightly, will result in topspin with nearly no extra "wrist" action.

you can do it with the wrists, but properly doing it has alot to do with what beanball said
i know people that use horrible form and stil get some good shots, don't get me wrong
I'm just saying it is not "proper", hence less consistent

If youve only been playing a few months, restringing is a vane waste. Only a more experienced athlete could really reap the benefits

Great game.
That noise is made when the ball is hit close to the frame producing lots of vibrations.
Pulled a hamstring playing a competive cyclist who is about 80 lbs. lighter then me on Saturday.
I won both sets he was quite suprised because he is much leaner than i am.
I was just as fast on the court.
