What kind of asshole does God have to be to condemn his own people to eternal Hell? Seriously man. That's kinda mean. It's like saying, "sure, you have free will to do whatever you like, but if you don't follow me, I'll send your ass to damnation."
What do you expect? Look at the history God has for treating his children. He drowned the whole litter of them the first time. Then he left his only "son" to die at the hands of bad guys.
Somehow, I don't think I would be taking parenting lessons from that guy.
In all fairness, it really depends on what translation of the Bible you follow. Most Christian religions that teach a concept of hell (eternal damnation)are working off of doctrine and mistranslations. A God of love would NOT allow people to be tormented for an eternity.
