Hey Baseball guys & gals, a question about sacs

Has there been any kind of a mathematical study that shows in what scenarios (early/late in games, # of outs in inning, etc. I have no idea how they would measure, who is at bat/who is on deck) but something that shows whether or not sacrificing outs by bunt/fly ends up in more runs than using the out to try to swing and continue the inning?

Just curious, because the team I follow sacrificing about 3 outs per game so they essentially play with only 8 innings.

RS doesn't believe in statistics.

You better hide this post from him.

Just sayin'

yes, there are a ton of studies. this field of research is called sabermetrics, and there is a ton of literature out there that can answer your question. you would probably have to buy a book about sabermetrics though.

it is my understand that sacrificing is usually not worth it, unless it's the pitcher. or maaaybe if it's late and you really need like one run

I really thought this post was gonna somehow relate to testicles/balls

Im so letdowwn

there's always studies on that type of shit. sports have statistics for almost every possible scenario imaginable.

They wouldn't measure by player though. they'd probably measure by batting order and innings. Fact is, if a guy is a bopper....they're not gonna have him sacrifice 99.9999% of the time. But if it's a pitcher or marginal player in a late game situation then it makes sense.

Well bran when you have a team do a SAC its because STATISTICALLY moving the runner to that next base with less than 2 outs says they have a higher % of scoring.
