here's one reason why blacks are intensly angry.

God that makes me want to puke. How horrible was that.

Damn pictures wanted to make me cry. We (humans) are really unbelievable. The way we are.

The black anger is illogical. Who are they mad at? The lynchers? They are all dead. The people who stood by and allowed the lynchings to happen? They are dead too.

The only one left to be mad at is "The White Man."

So, they are mad at "The White Man" who was not even alive at the time that the people they never knew were victimized? They are mad at "The White Man" who now, despite still having a great deal of power in this country's government, respects their right to equality under law?

Agreed, the pictures are disgusting and awful. The ironic part is that they will be described by some as inhuman, when in fact they represent everything that humanity represents - ignorant conflict and hatred. The fact of the matter is that the period of ignorance and hatred displayed in the pictures has now past, and people, beginning with the alleged "leaders" of the black community, who, if not stopped, will send civil rights back another 50 years, to stop this senseless conflict over something for which no one alive today is responsible.

Intensely incorrect sir. I am 36 and I have been told to be polite and call them negro, then that wasn't good enough. I was told to call them colored, then that wasn't good enough. I was told to call them black, then that wasn't good enough. Now I am told to be polite and call them African-American. The whole time they called me cracker. I was born in 65 so I was never raised to treat them any differently than myself. I have been alive this long and they have been equals the entire time. I realize there are morons and idiots out there that are prejudiced for no reason and good reason. I am not one of them. I did not do anything to their race other than put up with the whiney crybaby bullshit. Granted, it is probably justified to an extent. The current crop of reverse racists are wrong with their furvor, they did not experience anything of that sort and do not know anybody that did(I hope)(probably do though, unfortunately for the elderly ones). Malcolm X was a great man, he had a huge folowing because he represented the anger of the race and was embraced by them. The controversy of X and the affability of King combined made the movement what it was and as successful as it was. Neither was good enough or strong enough to appeal to the bulk of the blacks. Together they combined the hostility of the race with the pacifists. Leaps and bound have been made in race relations and all these 'activists' are speaking from the generation before. They are not talking of the black man today. They all are fighting for what the treatment was before Rosa said hell no. All the shit us cracker did do was wrong and the peeps nowadays know it. Anybody argueing it is an ass. Fact is, that shit will never happen again and if it did, it probably happens to whites, asains and any other race on this rock(people really are shit). Bottom line of all my bullshit is that was then, this is now, get your shit straight today about today. And if you want to start shit about serious racial injustices, try talking to an American. A REAL American. Talk to an Indian or an Eskimo. We owe alright, but not the Blacks.

Warik, I don't know you but we might have just started a 1% club here on Elite, Glad we agree.

yes, black people were hung over 100 years ago. whites killed blacks. blacks killed whites. how does this justify 'black anger'?

reverse prejudice pisses me off to no end. black pride, white pride, how is it different, we're all people here are we not? political correctness also makes me really mad:mad:

we have to learn to live with eachother and put this shit behind us. peace.

The German Nazis did much worse to the Jews...Do you see Jews still pissed off and angry at the German man...No, they are civilized and realized that it wasnt that particular German guy who lives next door to them who was doing this shit. Most likely the ones responcible are probably dead. Just like the lynchers in the photograph...Some people just have a brain while others dont and will consider all of one group bad because of something a select few have done.

kahn-awesome post.

I believe people in general put themselves in that position, regardless of race, gender, religion, where the blame is always on someone else. come on now, like kahn said, where are all of these people now? I mean if they are all dead, why are people pissed about HISTORY? its one thing that back then there wasn't equality back then, it is another thing if it happened nowadays. times have changed. I do feel kahn's pain but I give no respect to those that place the blame of the past to the people of now. that is just bullshit..

The racial prejudice of the past has decreased. It still exists.

Economic prejudice is the new prejudice, and it is just as bad. Blacks and minorities are disproportinately affected by this "new" form of prejudice, because years of racial prejudice left them poor.

I can't understand how a bunch of white people can tell black people they shouldn't be angry about something. It;s silly. They can make their own decisions.

Buggy Whips:
Many Jews are still angry at germans. I know dozens who won;t buy a German car (particualrly a Porsche), won't travel to Germany, and prefer not to associate with Germans.

What Matt said, with one addition: Warik you are highly misinformed, violence against African-Americans is no where at its end, a recent example: a hard-working African-American man being tied to a truck and brutally dragged through the streets in Texas, only a short time ago.

none of you guys seem to understand that about 85-90% of lynching victims were accused of either murder, rape or heavy theft. only a small handful were lynched for no reason.

so what. read 'do or die' by leon bing. in it you'll find a description of a crip gang member tying another crip gang member to the back of his car & dragging him down the road. then torturing him with pit bulls.

That statement is poorly thought out.

You're right. They were "accused" of it, rarely convicted in a court of law.

How much "proof" do you think was needed for a white woman to get a black peson arrested for rape 100 years ago? If there were a trial, whose word would be taken? There was no DNA evidence...

And since there were only a handful of "no reason" lynchings, this is OK?

They weren't for no reason. The reason is because of the subjugation of blacks at that time.

well it's nice to hear that you are in the business of defending lynchers, and further what does your book excerpt above tell us? That because gangs act horrific, it's o.k when African-Americans are treated horrifically as well. Poor logic.

none. i assume at least 50% were innocent. i admit the subjugation & fear of blacks lead to a highly biased judicial system, but no one seems to know/care about the truth in a situation like this.
People just assume they did it 'for no reason' as that makes PC arguments carry more weight in today's society.

i don't recall defending lynching (although it is easy to say in today's society that we wouldn't have endorsed lynching, just as it is easy for a spectator to say that they wouldn't have electrocuted someone in stanley milgram's experiments on social control), i recall trying to explain that the truth wasn't brought up in mainstream circles.

that's not my logic. it is a statement that most liberals don't seem to care when black on black violence happens, but they get pissed when white on black violence happens. sooo, logically (since we both seem to loooove that word) it can be assumed it is more the idea of racism that pisses peopel off more than the emotional well being of those affected by it.

black person tortures black person = irrelevant

white person tortures black person = miniseries

First off I don't think getting angry about things in the past does anyone any good, the purpose is to look back to make sure the same mistakes aren't made again not to become angry about them.

Second a problem with these facts that get minorities angry is they aren't put in perspective. For instance those lynchings yes horrible and disturbing. They display it like a large percentage of the black population was lynched not true. Yes white people owned slaves but their was only a small percentage of slave holders. Did you know that some black people participated in the slave trade, yes only a small percent. Although if you are to be angry at the small percent of whites for owning slaves shouldn't you be angry at the small percent of blacks that traded slaves.

I saw on a news program last week that a black city council leader wanted to take down pictures of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson from city hall because they owned slaves. Well that is absolutly ridiculous, again back to the perspective Jefferson may have owned slaves but he wrote the bill of rights which makes this country great. The councilman wanted to put up a picture of Malcom X instead. Heres a Malcom X quote "Thoughtful white people know they are inferior to black people." By that statement I do not fault Malcom X and say that any changes he made are irrevelvent because of that. I put it in perspective.

Seems that all of RyanH's protagonists are "hard working." How do you know he was "hard working?"

People brutally kill one another every day. Race may have nothing to do with it.

I just had to be difficult and point that out. Yes...there is a lot of racial hatred and perhaps always will be.

Yeah, and I'm sure that's perfectly legal and the police won't pursue evidence that may lead to the perpetrators. Hell, I bet if the cops were there they would have just stood there and cheered on!

No offense, but I'd rather be misinformed than ignorant. You can't compare a few isolated incidents in this day and age to the widespread horror that took place decades ago.

Does violence still exist? Yes. Does black vs. white and white vs. black conflict still exist, when in fact there is no reason for it to? YES.

No one is telling anyone what to do or what decision to make. Blacks have every right to be angry with or thrilled about white people. The First Amendment protects their speech, be it popular or unpopular.

"Kill whitey?" Fine.
"Love whitey?" Even better.

But don't think you're off the "I'm an ignorant dumb fuck" hook for uttering the former.

-Warik

the big question here is, who really gives a fuck. this is history people, you cant change what has already happened. this is the equivalent of me hating the english because they would rape and murder my ancestors (i'm scottish). yes, I don't like what happened, but god dammit, it's in the past and really does not affect me whatsoever. people just need an excuse to stay angry still, because it makes them feel like they have a cause or purpose in their life. how ridiculous. and i don't see why some of you non-black people take it upon your shoulders to be the defenders of african american society. who made you the their defender? what do you know about black society besides things you have read or seen on tv. you people really need to wake up and realize that violence was part of history and always will be, and there isn't a god damn thing you can do about it to change it. regardless of what the motive is, murder is still muder. whether the victim is white/black/jewish/gay/whatever, it should be about what the crime was and nothing more. fuck hate crime legislation.

times change.

Do me a favor, be white, go to 5th ward in Houston Texas (black area), and just walk up and down the street.

One of my friends had to do this as part of a hazing ritual, he got beat, robbed and held at gunpoint. The fraternity obviously stopped this part of the hazing after his incident.

times have changed and the roles are reversed but nobody cares.

Good point, Ms. Lexicographer (Copyright (c) Puc, 2002). The state of being un- or mis-informed would indeed display some degree of ignorance. Perhaps my error was due to the fact that I did not want to present Mr. H with a more insulting label, such as "stupid" or "foolish."

What I "meant" to say was that I'd rather be: "misinformed," as he stated, than to be one to present such absurd accounts of isolated, uncommon incidents and suggest that they are a continuing problem on the same scale as lynchings of the first half of the 20th century were.

eh, the reality is there were only 100 lynchings per year between 1866-1930. the majority happened in the south, so that comes out to about 6 lynchings per southern state per year during that time period. that is hardly a gigantic problem. The perpetual psychological torture 99% of black people experienced was a gigantic problem. 6 lynchings a year in florida wasn't.

You dipshit cracker bonehead. What an asshole you prove to be time and time again. You are lopsided because of your stupid want of political correctness. You think the bad things that happen to blacks are solely the cause of a white man? WRONG, boy, they are just as responsible as we are and we are to ourselves. People are people and we are shit to each other. It has less to do with color now than ever. His exerpt, that you dryly tried to neutralize by your snyde comment suggesting it is less credible, is stating that they are just as bad to each other. Does anybody ever check to see what the ratio of slaves sold by other tribes was to the kidnapped slaves was? Fuck you all. They sold each other and had slaves of each other. Shut the fuck up. If you are an 80 yr old black man, I will listen humbly. If you are a 20 something cracker, you know shit. Fuck off.

There are many modern incidents of African-Americans being abused and discriminated against because of nothing more than the color of their skin....the Diallo shooting in New York by a bunch of rogue white cops is a fine example.

Other than that, I now bow out of this thread since discussions of race requires knowledge, those with neutral minds, and those who aren't subject to the whimsical passions of the moment.

In short, racism lurks its ugly head in this thread, and I'll leave those who practice and endorse it to destruct themselves while believing that their way of life is ubiquitous, when in reality, it's nothing more than....outdated.....Carry on....

all the people from the photographs are dead but the evil in human nature is still present.

just like germans in the holocaust, all those people thought what they were doing was right. just look at the men posing proudly for the picture while the huge crowds look on in approval.

at the time, all those men were probably considered good, religious men doing justice to blacks. fuck, they were probably the leaders of their communities.

it just goes to show you how extremely fucked up people can think when influenced by a majority.

that type of racism toward blacks may be over in this country, but the underlying motives will always exist.

My grandfather told me about some of things the black man did to deserve getting hanged. He said alot of the time the black man was hanged because he vicously raped and beat a white woman or a young girl. So if that was the reason some of our forefathers hanged a black man, then justice was served. If there wasn't a good reason to hang'em other than their color, obviously that is just wrong.

Put me in the 1% club too.

This is absolutely fucking horrible:

Washington was a mentally retarded seventeen-year-old boy. On May 8, 1916, lucy Fryer, a white woman, was murdered in Robinson, seven miles from Waco. Washington, a laborer on her farm, confessed to the murder. in a brief trial on May 15, the prosecution had only to present a murder weapon and Washington's confession. The jury deliberated for four minutes, and the guilty verdict was read to shouts of, "Get that Nigger!"

The boy was beaten and dragged to the suspension bridge spanning the Brazos River. Thousands roared, "Burn him!" Bonfire preparations were already under way in the public square, where Washington was beaten with shovels and bricks. Fifteen thousand men, women, and children packed the square. They climbed up poles and onto the tops of cars, hung from windows, and sat on each other's shoulders. Children were lifted by their parents into the air. Washington was castrated, and his ears were cut off. A tree supported the iron chain that lifted him above the fire of boxes and sticks. Wailing, the boy attempted to climb the skillet-hot chain. For this the men cut off his fingers. The executioners repeatedly lowered the boy into the flames and hoisted him out again. With each repetition, a mighty shout was raised.

i used to read books about lynching, and only 25-33% of lynchings happened because rape was the main motive. murder (the lynching victim was suspected of murder) was the motive in 40-50% of the cases.

anyway, your grandpa is probably lying or seeing what he wants to see. probably the latter. most blacks weren't accused of rape and most that were were probably innocent. i'd say that maybe, maybe 10% of lynching victims really did rape a white woman. the rest were suspected of other crimes or were innocent.

RyanH said:

This was a freak occurence, not typical at all, which is why it was so newsworthy, and the democrats shamlessly dramatized it and used it as a campaign ad .

As the Governor of Texas, George Bush's response to this crime in Jasper,Texas was to put the murderer to death. Period. Amazingly, Liberals simultaneously whined that it wasn't treated as a "hate-crime" (as if that would have brought any more severe punishment!) and about the fact that Bush was pro-capital punishment. Obviously a solution isn't what liberals were after here, but a chance to pump their agenda and drum up votes.

As far as the pictures, of course it's sad, but no less sad than pictures from the many bloodbaths of the Civil War which resulted in a slavery-free US, or what happened in WWII concentration camps, Kosovo, or the result of terrorist action at the WTC. Definitely DOES NOT compare to the brutal hackings that took place in Central Africa a few years ago between the Hutus and Tutsis where BLACKS took machetes to BLACK women and children. So what does it prove? That man can be evil.

Bottom Line: It's over, get over it. It is a new day, we live in the freest country on earth, get on with your lives and stop whining.

read '10 things you can't say in america' by larry elder. he says that illigetimacy in black families is doing more destruction than racism (although racism, in a blanket sense, is probably responsible for the increase in crime & illigitamacy in blacks). no one tries to stop that. but they bend over backwards when a black person gets pulled over for speeding.

prejudice sucks. but it is a way of life. people see what they want to see. Its just the way it is. i can't condemn racism anymore than i can condemn stalking, the drug war, social & legal laws against being odd, etc. its all bias & filtered perception.

Lazy whiners crying that they was held down so they gots to gets free money and backwoods fuckers lighting crosses on fire and dressing up in sheets just to have a reason to hate should both be grouped into the same class...idiots.

i used to read books about lynching, and only 25-33% of lynchings happened because rape was the main motive. murder (the lynching victim was suspected of murder) was the motive in 40-50% of the cases.

anyway, your grandpa is probably lying or seeing what he wants to see. probably the latter. most blacks weren't accused of rape and most that were were probably innocent. i'd say that maybe, maybe 10% of lynching victims really did rape a white woman. the rest were suspected of other crimes or were innocent.

Well since my Grandfather was living back in the early 1900s and you weren',. I think I will believe him over the sources that you got your information from. Which is are what btw? I mean where did you get those statistics from?

:)

books about lynchings in the late 1800's, early 1900's that i got from college. many of them tried dispelling the myth that blacks who are lynched are guilty of raping white women. that was a really big myth back then, which is why i said your grandpa was probably wrong. it is like 60 years from now you saying to your kids 'methamphetamine will blow up your heart' or something like that. its just a popular myth that helps justify our actions. has nothing to do with truth.

try reading

Tow thing I'll add here.........yea I looked at the pics and they didn't shock me at all. I've seen mutilated and dead people in person so seeing a pic of it does nothing to me. Sorry. What I DID notice is some of the victims in that collection were white. I guess Ryan H thinks its ok if its a white person.
Now let me jump on the other side of the fence here, at the time these lynchings occured it was ILLEGAL for any black man to have ANY sexual contact with a white woman even if it was consentual. A black man could be arrested for patronizing a white prostitute. So I really doubt any claims of these lynchers that the victims "raped" white women.

Ryan. :)

You are one annoying puke, asshole. Do you have a brain in that air head of yours. Have you EVER picked and arguement that was not already done for you? This is judged as racial by you because you cannot argue us stating our side. We partook in it, we did not exclusively run slavery. They did it to each other. We do it to each other. Don't even try to pull the race card here. Try to know what the hell you are talking about. You subscribe to what you think will make you what you want to be. You are a wannabe slacker. Until you are original in your thinking, you will be used by the people that you lick the asses of. But you only have to kiss mine, dickhead.
