The absence of "music" in some scenes makes it extremely chilling and even more scary

Ive stayed several times at the lodge in the movie, its the Timberline lodge and ski resort on Mt Hood. Cool place!

The scenery is breathtaking

Is it really that isolated ?

Well its the ski resort the highest up on Mt Hood with an amazing view, but its not far from Mt hood meadows resort which is a superior place to ski and snowboard. Its also an international tourist site so its pretty busy year round, but especially during the winter season so except for the fact its on a mountain top its not really isolated. Its only about an hour and a half from Portland so its easy to get to it. It has a beautiful wood interior and a four star restaurant. Its worth a visit, the movie the Shining made it very famous and people go there just for that very reason. Ive skiied and snowboarded there dozens of times when I lived in Portland.
