I have got to quit smoking. I have been smoking for a good ten years, and I am sick of it. I do not enjoy it anymore, nor do I want to continue doing it. I have tried more than once to quit, and have failed miserably. I have become nicotines BITCH. Any suggestions on how to kick the habit for good? I dont want to die of cancer at an early age.

is this crak?

anyway, you just gotta quit buying it and have 2 weeks of HELL.

fuck everything else, just give your head a jumpstart and fuck yourself in the ass (metaphorically and painfull wise)

just DONT touch it...you can push for two more reps, now push to not fucking touch it or buy it- its up to you man :coffee:

Staying busy, or at least doing something that you enjoy can keep your mind off of smoking. It's all in your mind; the habit. You can try to do the patch and gum but they alone won't get you to quit. It helps to have friends who won't let up in front of them also. I quit cold turkey, but I only smoked for about 8 months, was up to a pack a day. I don't know how much you smoke, so it's up to you to do what feels best in your efforts to quit. Just remember the next time you reach for a cigarette; it will only make you feel worse!!
You can do it. :)

Both of my parents died from complications of smoking.....I can describe what they went thru, maybe the shock will help you quit...

I am willing to try anything. Remember, I dont want to do this anymore. Hell I never really wanted to do it. Just sort of happened.

If you don't want to do it anymore just wake up every morning and tell yourself you aren't going to smoke and don't. It's the only way to go about it. Cold turkey. At first it will be hard but tell yourself you don't want to die from lung cancer. Remind yourself of all the reasons you don't want to do it anymore.

Maybe start a collection jar, put the money you would have spent on cigarettes in it and once you've gone a year without a cigarette treat yourself to something fun. Watching your money fund grow should do it.

Find something else to replace having a cigarette in your mouth. Chew gum, eat sunflower seeds, or something. It takes 21 days to start a habit and 21 days to end it.

Just stop. Cold turkey.

My grandfather smoked for 30 years straight, then decided one day to go cold turkey, so don't say it can't be done.

Just do it, quit with the 'what ifs' etc.

Since you're "orally fixated" find something else to do with your mouth....I'm sure Crak would be happy.... :p :p

My dad: smoker's hack, not a cough, hack -- he would be racked with coughing & have to hold onto the sink so he wouldn't fall down, then he'd cough up phlegm......he ended up with bronchial asthma and emphesema. Although there is a surgery now to fix emphesema. Emphesema makes your lungs hard starting at the bottom, that's why people can't breathe. So what they do is cut off the hard part. The stress on my dad's system was so much that he had a heart attack....

Mom: got osteoporosis (side effect of smoking) -- dad hugged her once & broke her ribs; also had emphesema, ended up with lung cancer and blood poisoning, very long, slow & painful death

Oh and once they were put on the intubator (tube in the throat) they were dead soon after -- most of the people in intensive care were there cuz of smoking related issues...

So just think of all the medical issues you could avoid by quitting!! Both my parents were dead before they were 70.....

Get some nicorette (or similar) and ween yourself off the tobacco addiction slowly. It's hard, I know. If you try cold turkery and fail (which you prolly will, you're only human), you will not be likely to try and quit again any time soon, or ever.
If you go cold turkey, keep your mind and mouth busy. Gum or candy and avoid other smokers like the plague till you have full control.
You can do it, but it's gona be damn hard!! I wish you luck!

From a medical standpoint try and contact your family Dr and go see him. Many local hospitals have "Quit smoking classes" they offer free of charge. All the hospitals we work at just went to a totally smoke free campus meaning you cant smoke anywhere near the hospital. Your Dr may even try you on a drug called welbutrin. It is actually a mild anti-depressant but really helps people who want to quit, quit. Shoot me a PM if you have any more questions.

sorry, but if you cant stop that is due to your own lack of discipline. i know many people who smoked like chimneys until they had to go to basic and AIT. they weren't allowed to have cigarettes.

guess what happened? they didn't die, and hardly any of them went back to smoking.

when my Ex was pregnant with our second child, she was chasing my 3 1/2 year old daughter and trying to take something from her.it was my cigarette butt.she proudly looked at me and said I smoke like you daddy. I quit that day and never looked back. You need to find the motivation to change and do it.It will be hard at first buut if you can do the diet and exercise you do, you can beat this.

When I quit smoking I first cut down to only when I was freakin' out for a smoke. Then I bought some Nicorette gum and chewed that only when I really needed a cigarette. It only took a few days before I was chewing only regular gum...

I had to change all of my routines. Did things differently when I got home from work...the cig's in the car were tough.(On the way to work and on the way home) It's been 13 months now since I quit...

It was brutal for the following days..I'd say probably a week or so I was pretty bitchy (according to my BF), but keeping busy helped alot and you start feeling better after the body begins to heal itself.

Good Luck! I hope sharing my experience can help ya quit!

goto the doc and get put on those pills,I forget the name but they are basically wellbutrin,I think they are zanac or zantax

Post pirate! Read what I just wrote, but you are correct it is welbutrin and it really helps people get off cigarrettes.

Here's another suggestion: Move here to Delaware where you can't smoke in public in the whole state.......lol

Exactly; the power of mind over matter. :)

I smoked from 14 to 21, then I started dating my bf whos who takes good care of his body, he kinda persuaded me to quit. It was hard at first, all my friends smoked...places I hung out people smoked. The hardest part is when your drinking you crave that cigarette. One day I just threw my pack away and went cold turkey. Its been 4 yrs and I havent touched a cigarette since. Now when I smell it on someone or I'm around it I gag. I feel alot better since I quit. It's hard, but you gotta do it. Good luck!

Tried cold turkey- Failed

Tried Wellbutrin- Failed

Tried the gum- Failed

I am really at a brick wall now, gotta trick my mind somehow. Really do not want to do it anymore. I never thought that something could be so hard. I am trying to quit as part of my new "get fit" program. Since I am now working out, and eating better I want to make my life smoke free. I know that I can do it, it will just take time.

Thanks for the advice, keep up the support.

Nicotine is more adictive than crack.

Wellbutrin-SR 300mg is much better than Zyban. Wellbutrin will help control cravings but you still have to work on it yourself. For the first 4 days you've quit, time it so that you can stay at home and have someone around you for those days to keep you on the straight and narrow. Don't drive anywhere by yourself. Get the dr. to also prescribe xanax for a month to help with the anxiety while you're going through physical and mental withdrawls. For the first 4 days of physical withdrawl, take the xanax religiously and drink a lot of water and there are some supplements that can help too, I'll look for them and get back to ya.

Good luck. Kicking a nicotine addiction is one of the toughest things you'll do but it's soooooo worth it!

What kind of silly statement is that?

I'm pretty sure this is false.

Actually, I got it from a crack/cocaine addiction website where it said that crack is second to nicotine for addiction.

Let me help above all the other sugguestions by letting you
in on a little secret..

Most People, and especially non smoking guys think that chicks that smoke
are nasty smelly and gross.. First impressions count regardless of how sweet
or fantastic you may be, some may not even try to get to know you.

Nothing turns me off of a woman, even when I'm just admiring her, than
when I see her light up.. I will not even continue to look at her the same way.
Most times I will look the other way when I notice the cigg.

I personally see smokers as Weak, I see them as owned, I see them as not clean because of the stink.
Even when everything else about them is perfect on the outside.

Same way many think of people that are obese seeing them eating junk food.

Good luck !

work on your own self-discipline issues, and once you have done that, then quitting smoking should be cake. going cold turkey has been done by many, many people.

Lick an ashtray
Use the patch or Gum
Meet a non smoking guy/girl that you really want
Add up the $ you spend on ciggs in a year and write it down

Wanting to quit is the most important part. If you didn't want to quit, then there is nothing to push you. I never got addicted to cigarettes. I'd smoke, but could quit any time I wanted. Just got lucky I guess.

Oh yeah.

Soldiers dead = 769
WMD = 0
Iraq links to Al-Quaida = 0

Athletes convicted of steroid use < 10% of total
Regular Joes convicted of steroid use > 90% of total

Good thing we're keeping steroids out of the hands of those damn cheating athletes! :chomp:
