Help with AC joing problem in my shoulder

Trevdog

I am looking for advice on what to expect in terms of recovery from this shoulder problem. I've had rotator cuff type pain before but it didn't prevent me from training.
This is much worse. I don't think I had specific trauma, I don't remember any sharp pain when lifting, maybe when shoveling snow or using a pick to break up ice. It hurt in the joint in the front area of my left delt when I did any bench press (especially incline), military press or lateral raises.

I decided to take a few weeks off. I told a trainer I know and he referred me to a chiropractor who says it is probably wear and possible degeneration in the AC joint (where the clavacle joins with the scapula). He has been treating it with ultrasound and gave me a topical glucosomine sample. I've been taking oral glucosomine and using a heating pad. The doc is going to xray it Thursday.

I haven't trained in almost 2 weeks and I am hating it, but it still doesn't feel like I could start again without pain.

Does anybody have experience with this? What else can I do to treat it? How long will it take to heal? When can I train again? Would deca or gh help? Thanks.

deca will help , but only while you take it , if you overwork it when your off it will come right back.

if it just started to hurt all of the sudden it is probably inflamed , their is a small amout of cartilage between the two bones and when it swelles it causes discomfort , taking anti-inflamatories will help it to stop hurting but will slow the healing process , the best thing to do is very light very high rep work on it , that will get the blood flowing to it and help it heal.

I have the same problem , and 3 differant doctors told me the same thing. "if you keep lifting heavy it is gonna keep hurting"
they recomend taking several MONTHS off.

I just deal with the pain , I'm also on script Vioxx for something else and it seems to help.

help with ac joint

Hey bro i know were your coming from and i just been thourgh a bunch of test and what they tell me is its an arthritus condition caused by all the lifting i do and also a bone in my shoulder is wearing at the ends from all the movements, i am on antiflammatory drugs which makes it feel better but still pain if i lift, the doc did say i wont hurt it anymore if i still lift. So i guess i will lift in pain for awhile till i get the cash for an operation to clean the joint and fix the bone, good luck

Unfortunately the closest ART guy is more than 2 hours away. I would gladly make the trip if the treatment would heal my injury. However it appears that ART applies to soft tissues, not bones. I'll have to make some calls. Hopefully my x ray will shed some light on what I'm dealing with.
