HELP: protein before bed time?

InGearX

New member
I see that people recommend drinking protein before going to bed!

Question 1: Why is that good and safe to do?

Question 2: What kind of protein shake by Nutrition Facts? # of calories, grams of protein?

Question 3: What brand would you recommend for that?

In general during the day I drink "Lean Body" by Labrada which has 290 Calories and 45g of protein I mix it with MILK is that OK?
You may take a look at the Nutrition Facts by visiting this page I made http://www.hackin.to/leanbody/

Question 4: I see that "Designer protein Whey" say they are # 1 selling protein in USA, is it good?

Question 5: To mix these protein shakes with milk is OK?

Thank you all...

Question 1: Why is that good and safe to do?

It is good to do because your not going to be eating for around 8 hours probably and that is your longest fast of the day. Your body needs something to feed off of other than your muscles

Well the night time proteins are a rip off. So just find a good shake with some casseine(if i am not mistaken it absorbs slower) protein in it.

Question 3: What brand would you recommend for that?

Question 2's answer kinda takes care of that...it is personal preferance for the most part. I actually have a shake late at night then wait an hour or so and have a can of tuna right before bed...i dont know, it keeps me full enough to sleep and it is a pretty clean 300 cals with good fats and 30 grams protein.

Labrada makes a pretty good MRP, i dont use MRP's anymore for economical reasons but that one is pretty good. Mixing your shakes with milk is fine, and makes them taste better..just dont use whole milk, if your gonna use milk try and use skim or 1 % because an MRP is gonna have carbs in it and you wanna try and avoid mixing carbs and fat in the same meal(or in this case meal replacement).

As for designer, it is pretty good. I have gone through two jugs of it. It mixed alright, not that great...but tasted pretty good. If you want something a little easier on your wallet i would suggest EAS simply protein in the 5 lbs jug(yea, it looks big at first...till you kick it in a couple weeks) with them you get 80 servings, 20 grams a piece, mixes easy, tastes good. The best way to mix is a blender esp cause then you can add in other things to help the taste and or add more carbs to it. With the EAS protein you can just put some water in the bottem of a bottle, funnel it in, then put some more water in and shake and it comes out great too. For me i need that because I am on the run sometimes and I dont have time to play with a blender and carry around a bucket to drink my protein out of. Labrade proplete is also good, it tasted very good when i tried it but i ran out fast and havn't had it in a while since I have been opting for the larger canisters. You just gotta find something you like and try to keep your protein high, I dont know your bodyweight, activity levels or goals but a shake before bed is a good idea, and mrp's between meals is necessary if you really wanna gain some muscle

I just get some Cassein w/ milk, followed by a tablespoon of flax and that's it. Better option may be cottage cheese or a chicken breast, but since I know I wont eat either I go for the shake.

casein (powder) + cottage cheese + polyunsaturated oil + fiber (All bran)

I say take muscle milk from cytosport before bed. The first ingredient is casein and even though it's high in fat ,it's good fat. Hell, it might not be the most cost effective protein but it's taste is kick ass! I think thats why it works, you drink it more often because it is actually really good shit.

Cans of tuna in water also work well. No fat or carbs, 13-18G of protein, and only costs 50 cents a can.

I always thought eating protein loaded stuff immediately before sleeping was bad, as it would turn into fat stores?

I've been having a triple threat shake before bed for the past week...love it.

This was going to be my recommendation since it is what I actually use every night. This stuff is awesome in taste and profile. What I've been doing lately is take just one scoop, a little more whey and 6 grams of CLA. I'm not sure how well it works, but lets just say I haven't gotten any fatter from all that dietary fat.:)
