Everyone has been using it and I can't download links that you guys post. Smiley buttons won't work, etc. Not only on this site, but others as well. What do I do?

You could clear out the browser cookies although that will remove saved passwords also, I think.

yeah, i'd start with clearing the browser cookies and then a restart. depends on what OS you are using as to how fast things are getting screwed up. when i was running win98se, i'd have to reboot at least once every 24 hours or i'd have mega problems. when i was running XP i think i rebooted 4 or 5 times in about 2 weeks.

also, since you've got a lot of people using the computer, if every time they are surfing the web and a pop-up box comes up to download "xxxxxxxxxx flash player" or "xxxxxxxx plug in" or whatnot, and they are downloading all of them....oh boy. when an excess of that has been happening, i used to just format out the hard drive and start fresh. was easier than going in and fixing things manually.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll do a search to see how to do these things and hope it works. I'm using windows 2000

Doesn't Windows 2000? Has a system restore? If so I'd just restore to when you think that last time things were working right. That saves you the trouble of trying to fix every little thing one by one.

How do I get to that? Pretend that I'm totally ignorant about computers except how to type and do searches and U will be close to the truth. I need everything explained.

The System Restore will only take him back to the point where the last recognized piece of software was installed. If somebody installed some sort of web plugin a nrew restore point might not have been created, like it would had he installed something like Photoshop or MS Office.
This might leave him without software that he installed intentionally.

But I feel it's a small price to pay to have to reinstall software feel if it save you the trouble going nuts looking for what wrong and how to fix it.

It all come with being a computer geek. And all you geeks out there know who you are. All those muscles aren't fooling anybody.

Sometimes when my brother gets to much "shit" on this computer, I just completely restart the son of a bitch. It takes a while, but it runs so much better.
