Help me with my Pops..

Just looking for a good diet and routine for my Dad...He has been on "Fatkins" for a while and I don't like it...He doesn a lot of cardio with his diet but thats it..I have been trying to get him in the gym for the longest..But what I am asking from you guys is definantly a new diet for him and a nice starting out routine...He is about 6'1" and about 220lbs...He's not real fat but soft I guess would be a better word..He is a naturally big dude and would look better if he hardened up...Anyway ideas for me...Thanks ahead..
 
I'm not going to give him a complete diet or anything becasue I couldn't; I don't know him or his body, but I will give a few tips.

You can take protien with carbs or fat, but never take fat with carbs except in a very few cases.
Do some cardio in the mornings on an empty stomach.
Get a lot of protien in and start working out with high reps to get that heart rate pumping.
