Windows or Mac?

She likes the Power book, Dell 8600 and 5150 and the Sony Vaio.

I like both Win or Mac - I don't care.

I would by Win because I have so many already.

Mac's are cool but I won't be able to help as much technically over the phone.

Suggestions?

She has 2k to spend.

i would say go with windows, because it is the most widely used, supports the most software, and is really easy to use.

not to mention you have a ton of windows gurus here if you ever have problems...i dont know many people who use mac, other than code.

I hate my Vaio, and the other people are right about you needing to help her, get windows.

Out of those 3 I would pick the Dell hands down.

LMAO

Ah - I see now.

FOr home/light use, I love my little Emachine

I spent less than 700 bucks for mine...great warranty...home repair, etc.

AMD Athlon 2400+ proccessor
DVD burner
CD RW
256 Mb
80 GIg HD
6 USB ports
Lexmark printer
17" flat panel screen

Get her a Dell. A Dimension 4600 fully loaded will cost less than 2k$

Hmm, I like my Vaio. Was well under 2k.

2K is more than enough to get a good system. I would find a small computer shop that builds their own and offers a warranty. The small fries usually do good work in order to earn repeat business, without lining Corporate Officers pockets.

Smallest ads in the yellow pages is wheere I found the very best of computer techs. They build them offer warranty, service is cheap etc... my2cents

It is all about getting the most CPU for the least $$.

As for Win or Mac, if you can help her more on the phone with Tech stuff, go with Windoze. @ least 2kpro or XPpro

I forgot to mention she wants a notebook.

I'd stay with Dell no matter what she's looking for. Best customer service around. For example, if something breaks, they just send a technician home and dont ask 2356 questions.

Um, I doubt she'll be posting right away.

She'll have to grasp turning on,turning off and getting what a mouse is and does first.

The concept of dailog boxes and windows is gonna kill one of us.

If she is getting online, make sure she comes here!!
I want pics!!!! :verygood:

LOL

I bought her a digital camera and printer that you can use with the memory card - no computer needed - for Christmas and she hasn't used it.

Why?

She's afraid to break it.

Sigh.

I've been begging her to break it for months.

I've been trying to get my mom and my grandpa online for years.

My mom is scared to death of computers and my grandfather won't use one until it works via the Clapper and TV remote control.

I hope you have about 2 hours a day to be tech support...lol. I am scared to death that my mom will want one to surf the net. She may end up posting on a board like EF under some alias :)
