I went tanning for the first time today and I have fairly light skin and burn fairly easy. I just want to get a good base tan and do the rest offside, basically use the tanning bed as mantience tan and to start the tan. right now I have banna boat tanning oil with aloe vitmains it's spf 8 is this too much or too little, I smear put it all over my self jumped in the bed for the four minutes it said for the time user. Now do I have to wait a full week before hitting t he bed? Can I tan outside during that week than jump back in the bed the next week for say 8 minutes or so how does the pattern go? thanks. Also how do u cover you back with the oil I am not that flexible .

i have probably the same skin tone as you do...light skinned blond hair blue eyes and burn easily. you have to work yourself up in the beds. i went for my first session and did no more than 7 minutes. don't bother with the SPF stuff in the beds...just go by how hot your skin feels. if it starts to feel hot...get out. i still dont go for more than 10 minutes at a time but thats just for maintenence...outside whenever it's sunny and i'm not working i'm shirtless and out by the pool. then i use SPF 8 or SPF 4 for the already well-base-tanned areas

ciao

When I start out after a long layoff I only tan once every 3 or 4 days to get the skin started on a light base tan. After about 2-3 weeks of that I up it to tanning once every 2 days. I will continue that schedule until I peak out and cant get any darker. Then I bump it up to two days of back to back tanning and one day off, then two days on one day off.

Anytime in the sun for prolonged periods is basicly the same or more than time in a booth so you should count that as a day of tanning.

I don't use tanning accelerators. They are inconvenient and I tan well enough without them anyhow.

Just go by touch and feel, and when you feel like your tan plateus, kick up your frequency a bit.

don't use outside tanning products in tanning beds it makes going in there pretty much worthless either don't use anything or get one for indoor tanning. Since you have light skin tone and burn easily to start don't go more then every 3 or 4 days like bronze said. Like embrace said once you start feeling hot get out.
When I use to work at a tanning salon I use to tan everyday but I tan easily and don't burn either. Just take it slow to start out until you build up your base and you will be fine.

Take supplements like copper before you tan. Somehow it allows your body to produce more melanin (pigment that helps you tan) If you don't like tanning then get the Jana Tan spray. That stuff works wonders. I have seen it at the Arnold Classic for the last few years, and it works really well.

I never used any lotions with any SPF in it...kinda counter productive if you ask me.

What you should do is move your arms above your head every so often. Adjust your body or you'll get these funky white patches and creases! It's the equivalent of a plug spots on your head if you have a hair transplant...not so subtle and very unattractive. You also want to move your hips so you don't get the "cottontail" on your butt! It's a spot where your taibone touches the tanning bed (also occurs on your shoulderblades, hence moving your arms up occasionally).

To start off, if the session is up to 25 minutes, only go about half (depending on your susceptibility to burning/tanning). You don't have to wait a whole week, just go for a shorter amount of time in the bed. After 2 weeks (or so) you should be okay to gradually lengthen the time.

Just watch out for your eyes. They have those little eye protectors...might be worth putting them on.

Happy tanning!

try the ultrabronze beds which are more money ($30-35 each) and you only need 3 of them for a deep tan. After that, all you need is one per month to maintain. You can add to it by using Mystic Tan (spray on tan which last a week to 10 days). Tanning places should have both.

PS: I need some Karma! All will be returned!
