heart rate ???????

New member
Some guy in the gym told me every one has there own heart rate that will burn fat the best and if they go over it they will burn muscle ...any one ever heard of this and if they have how do you find out what your rate is .......also this guy said walking is better then jogging because your heart rate stays @ a steady rate .....what do you think ???

Yes, there is indeed a relation between heartrate and fatburning. There is a table (chart?) for showing which heartrate is best for you (for fat burning) depending on your age. Your gym should have one of those.

Its called the target heart rate. It is found between 60 and 90 percent of maximum heart rate reserve.

Walking is less catabolic than jogging... however, 30 yard wind sprints are anerobic and will prevent the catobolism of your hard-earned muscle for use as energy to fuel the jogging/walking/running session. Any distance over 40 yards becomes catabolic and any running session over 1.25 hours depletes the body's glycogen stores thus becoming catabolic.

Copied one for you:

The following table shows estimated target heart rates for different age categories. Look for the age category closest to yours and read across to find your target heart rate.

Age
Target HR Zone
50-75 %
Average Maximum Heart Rate 100 %

20 years
100-150 beats per minute 200

25 years
98-146 beats per minute 195

30 years
95-142 beats per minute 190

35 years
93-138 beats per minute 185

40 years
90-135 beats per minute 180

45 years
88-131 beats per minute 175

50 years
85-127 beats per minute 170

55 years
83-123 beats per minute 165

60 years
80-120 beats per minute 160

65 years
78-116 beats per minute 155

70 years
75-113 beats per minute 150

Your maximum heart rate is about 220 minus your age. The figures above are averages and should be used as general guidelines.

Ok Im new on this site; My Heart rate gets up to 200 when I jog or run.. Some people seem concerned over this # I am heavy 250 but I never feel like I cant breath or like my heart is pounding out of my chest or anything. My resting rate is perfect I have had my BP checked. It does come down to about 175 - 160s in a short time after I start to walk then to 135 in like 2 mins maybe. I am out of shape, should I be more worried about this seems like for me to be in my target zone I would have to slowly walk to hit that # I am 42. Also I prefer the elliptical and do 3-4 mile in about 30 min or so. I could go way slower I guess. I am also trying my 1st stack HGHx2, Testo-Max and Winsol. All non steroids or natural steroids dont seem to do anything for me as I can not choose my own diet as I am working in Afghanistan and meals are served to me, but since I started 3 or 4 weeks ago I have gained 5 pounds.

heartrate.webp had to work fast to get this pic, this was rated by holding on to the handle bars. treadmill set to manual.
