Heart Attack

New member
Whats with all the posts lately with people dropping in the gym from a heart attack ? I have read at least a 1/2 dozen of them on different boards . What is causing them , and aren't there any warning signs for atheltes ? What are we suppose to look for high colesterol , high blood pressure , what else ? Everytime I read one of them post I do some serious thinking about my young kids , and debate getting off my current cycle . You have to admit it is scary when you hear these stories !

Mr

All things considered, I think it's all the stimulants available and being taken today. I mean a young, otherwise healthy, fit person should not have cardiovascular disease or hardening of the arteries, this just doesn't compute. So what's left but the stim's. And they will cause a heart attack regardless of your age or health because they affect the rythm of your heart which is just as bad. Anyway, that's my opinion.

Thats what I am worried about , since I stared my cycle my cardio is going excellent . I don't know if its just more confidence or what but I enjoy it more lately and really push myself .

Mr

I'm no doctor but I think the bro's need to be more heart-health conscious. Especially with cardio and the stim's. I mean with the stim's you're already working the heart with increased heart rate and blood pressure. Putting excessive cardio on top of that will beat the living hell out of your heart. And then people wonder why they go to the doc and he tells then their heart is enlarged and the valves are leaking not to mention rythm problems. If you bro's are hell bent on taking stim's, let me make the following suggestions:

1) Make (stimulant-free) cardio your fat cutting/burning main-stay.

2) If you want to do stimulants, don't ever mix them as they may have an unpredictable, cumulative and dangerous affect when taken together.

3) Only take stimulants when you're not working out hard/strenouos, whether we're talking about pumping iron or doing cardio.

4) Check you blood pressure and heart rate daily, especially right before you work out. If either of your bp readings are over 140/90 and/or your heart rate is over 100, DO NOT WORK OUT right then. Just wait until you've come down on both readings.

I'm telling you, heart rythm problems are responsible for more heart attack deaths in otherwise young healthy americans than anything else. And I'll challenge anyone to prove me wrong on that one. Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox now, but I hate to see you young bro's mess yourselves up because of ignorance. Health, it should all be about health!

So 40butpumpin do you think that some people are getting warning signs and are not seeing them because they are on stims ? I am 37 yo and I don't do any stims . I don't like any jittery feelings . I have been feeling good on my sust/decca cycle , but when you hear these stories they make me wonder if younger people are dropping then I should have some concern .

i am concerned also, as i am almost 40. i feel good and think my health is good, but i do use stimulants to work out on fairly often. and yes, my heart races sometimes depending on what im doing. it subsides quickly after i finish though. this is an interesting topic and would like to see more input on it.......................:D

With rythm problems, I don't believe there are any warning signs. I mean if something kicks your heart off into an abnormal rythm, unless you corrct it quickly, it'll result in death. If there are any warning signs at all, I would say they are the hign heart rate and blood pressure. If you're not on stim's and doing cardio, I'd think you're at a lower than average risk for any heart condition. It's not the cardio or the working out that's killing people, it's the introduction of the artificial stim's IMHO. Sounds to me like you're doing the right thing. hth

after 20 + years of jucing i now take Hyzar and will for the rest of my life....oh yes its because of da juice....

fyi hyzar is a high blood pressure med:kaioken:

I see the heart problem as three fold :
1) high blood pressure exacerbated by gear
2) lower HDL's directly from gear
3) heart arythmias due to stimulants or worsened by stimulants.

We all know that high BP is a real and very common occurrance here. More cardio needs to be done. Crazy diets need to be curbed, and stimulants should be stopped. Lose weight or BF by eating well and doing cardio. Your diet should be void of saturated fats as it is.

As for cholesterol :
The only thing that matters is the ratio of HDL's to total cholesterol. If your cholesterol is 150 and your HDL's are 50 then your ratio is 3.
Ratios of 1-3 are excellent, and 4-5 just acceptible. Personally, I want to be below 3.

Gear drastically lower HDL's. I had a blood test where my HDL's were measured at 62. After 8 weeks on d-bol it was 22. My ratio went from 133/62 or 2.15 to 130/22 or 5.9. That is shocking and that can be deadly.

Stimulants raise Blood Pressure and cause heart beat irregularities or make ones present...worse.

What kind are present commonly?

Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is the most common "abnormality of the heart valves. It affects 10-15% of the population and is usually diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40. When not occurring with other complications it does not shorten life...although symptoms may impair one's quality of life.

What happens is that the valves between the atrium and left ventrical of the heart don't quite close tightly. This causes a click and maybe some blood leaking backwards. It appears to be inherited. MVP can show no symptoms (60%), mild symptoms (click and palpitations) or lots of symptoms (rapid heartbeat, dizzyness, chest pain, fatigue and even headaches.

In the first case, no treatment is necessary.
In the other cases you can be more susceptible to bacterial or viral infection of the heart. That can cause heart attack.

Exercise strengthens the heart and without bad leakage is considered good for the heart.

All coffee and stimulants should be cut out if you suffer this problem. (diet pills, nasal sprays etc also).

For many people this can cause anxiety and tons of fear of death...not fun.

AS is hard on the body in some ways. I feel it is imperative to have increased cardio when on gear to help raise HDL's and burn fat. I also think more veggies and fruit mixed with protein is the answer....not stimulants to burn fat. That is asking for trouble in my mind.

I am not bragging....just fact..... I am in my mid 40's and my BP is about 109/58 today and my cholesterol is 130ish. My resting heart rate is 42. I eat very very carefully and do a ton of cardio. I have a single digit BF% all the time.

It is hard work, but we are all used to that. I know how hard you all work at BB. I just think diets and stims need to be re-evaluated.

BTW.... my BP 5 years ago was 140/90 and my resting HR was 80 and my cholesterol was 300.

By paying attention to the right areas you can accomplish this also.

gomo,

i dont know what the levels are but low BP is dangerous also...im not saying yours is too low but you might want to do some research and find out....also most people think its only the diastolic (the lower) is the one you have to watch...NOT true .studies show a high systolic is also dangerous.

According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health, a blood pressure reading consistently higher than 140/90 is a sign that the blood pressure needs to be brought under control

What are the symptoms of high blood pressure?
You will probably have no symptoms of high blood pressure. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel ill. However, if high blood pressure has damaged your body organs, you may have:

headaches
nose bleeds
shortness of breath
blurred vision
chest pain .......

high BP and affects on your kidneys:
;Warning Signs of Kidney and
Urinary Tract Diseases

High blood pressure

Blood and/or protein in the urine

A creatinine blood test greater than 1.2 for women and 1.4 for men (Creatinine is a waste product removed from the blood by healthy kidneys. In kidney diseases, creatinine levels in the blood may increase. Creatinine levels vary with age, race and body size. A lower value may be a sign of kidney disease in children.)

More frequent urination, particularly at night

Difficult or painful urination

Puffiness around eyes, swelling of hands and feet, especially in children

,,Daily magnesium supplements can trigger small but significant decreases in blood pressure (BP), researchers report

M.O.D.

You are right... low BP is not always good.

In the weak and infirm it can be a concern.

In athletes, it is valued and considered a plus.
I do get funny looks from nurses though who ask if I am feeling okay :D
