Healthy Restaurant Meals

We all know that sometimes we are forced to go out and eat out with friends family lovers, etc... What type of Restaurant can one get a healthy meal at? Is there such a thing as healthy Italian when cutting? healthy chinese? mexican? what about just plain old diners? What do you ppl. order when eating out to stay healthy. Salads are really getting old. If you do get salads what type of dressing is the healthiest?

chinese-
chicken and broccoli tell them no MSG
beef and broccoli tell them no MSG
chicken with mix veggies its steamed goodstuff

mexican-
some places have whole wheat tortia with chicken and ask for fat free cheese

greek food-
chicken caesar salad
they have chicken and brown rice

..and for dressing for salad ask for house dressing ,they make it themselves so u wont see much fat and carbs in these or if u want a side order of dressing ask them for like fat free ones if they carry it

Wherever I go there is usually some sort of grilled fish on the menu (I'm in New Orleans) so I usually get that with no sauce or butter on it, and most places will just steam some broccoli for you even if it's not on the menu.

Italian places always have chicken dishes, which means they can grill you some chicken if you ask.

Chinese places are tricky. Almost everything is loaded with oil, and white rice is a bad idea if you are watching carbs. And those fried wontons, man I love them, but is anything more unhealthy than those  ? I usually get some shrimp in garlic sauce or just use that as a cheat meal and get whatever I want.

Mexican is easy for me, I get chicken fajitas and give the tortillas to my kids, and pile on the peppers and salsa :p . Cebollitas are grilled green onions, and I get a side of those to add to whatever I am eating.

My favorite salad is just plain spinach with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

The bottom line is you are going to have to order specially prepared items, usually off the menu. Nobody said it was going to be easy. If it was easy, everyone would have washboard abs :D

monosodium glutamate [mon-uh-SOH-dee-uhm GLOO- tuh-mayt]

Definition: Commonly known as MSG, this white crystalline powder is derived from glutamic acid, one of the 22 amino acids. This natural amino acid is found in seaweed, vegetables, cereal gluten and the residue of sugar beets. It was first discovered by Japanese scientists in the 1920s. Japan, where MSG is known as aji-no-moto, is still today's largest producer of MSG, a popular flavor enhancer in Japanese and Chinese cooking. Even though it has no pronounced flavor of its own, monosodium glutamate has the ability to intensify the flavor of savory foods. Some people have reactions to MSG that cause them to suffer from a variety of maladies including dizziness, headache, flushing and burning sensations.

So, is the chinese restaurant gonna understand what i'm saying when i order something and say no MSG?? honestly, have u ever done it or u trying to make me look retarded.

Keep in mind they will either look very confused or say "we never use MSG".

Bottom line....they all understand- it's no big deal. :)

japanese!!! order raw fish, or a seafood/chicken/beef hotpot - its loaded w veg, meat and egg!
great protein. sushi is also great..but order sashmi if u dont want rice.

always ask for olive oil dressing or balsamic instead of their dressing -- theirs may taste good but it usually has heaps of sugar to taste good

joey try the one on 42nd street 7th ave theirs a mexican place they can make a whole wheat tortia on request

Just ate at Outback Steakhouse. Ordered grilled chicken, steamed veg w/o butter and a salad no dressing. When people look at you funny tell them that you are going to eat again in 3 hours anyway. that is always good for a stupid look:D

I always go with Chicken Fajitas. Most resturants have 'em. Just take it easy on the tortillas, guacamole and sour cream. But you can load up on the salsa and pico de gallo! Yummy

If it's not very often you go out to eat, 1 meal isn't going to break you man, it'll probably be good for fat loss due to it shocking your metabolism. I usually go out on dates on the weekend, and out to eat, I'll always try to get some kind of baked chicken breast or steak. If they don't have either of those, then I'll just eat a cheat meal, like I said, it's good for your metabolism anyway.

You can take me out to eat almost anywhere, I an can find (or make) a GREAT meal---with fast food not to be confused with going out. I never eat fast food, unless I'm taking a free meal.

I love SEAFOOD!!! I'm originally from Louisiana so whenever I go out I like to get shrimp or any other kind of seafood.

Another good place is Chineese food. They usually have really good vegetable dishes, and they have shrimp dishes too! YUMMY!!!:p
