Having Surgery Tomorrow Morning!

Hey Guys! Just wanted everyone to know that I've finally had enough and decided a couple weeks ago to have my shoulder and elbow fixed. The doctor is going to take 8 to 10mm off the end of my right clavicle. Saw blade teeth at the end of my clavicle is best way to describe the way it looks in the x-rays. The doctor calls it Acromiclavicular (AC) Arthritis. Because my elbow has been giving me problems on and off over the last year, we both decided it would be a good idea to repair it as well if he see anything while scoping it. Basic tennis elbow. I've never had surgery before and I'm a little nervous about the whole thing. Hopefully, this will solve my problems and I can come back harder and get bigger and stronger than ever. The constant pain during any upper body movement for the past two years has held me back long enough. The problem had gotten so bad that I have to take 4 IBprofen before every workout. I did lay off for a couple of months at a time, but it never got any better. It even hurts to pick up my 5 yr. old son. If any of you guys have had similar surgery, would you mind posting your recovery time (road) and how long before you could start back? What to do and not to do? Would a low dose/short cycle be good at some point to help and speed the recovery time? Should I request SubQ stitching? Last, how did you respond to general anaesthesia? BTW, my doctor is supposed to be one of the best sports medicine doctors in the region. Thanks Guys! I'll let you guys kknow how it goes....

Flex, good luck with the surgery. I did have surgery in December on my elbow. It was dafinitely worth the down time, I put off the surgery for about 10 years. I am back stronger than before.3 months of therapy afterwards. My problem was epicondilitis and torn muscle.I too have a very good surgeon,in my opinion the best in Ohio. She works on all the pro athletes. Also, 50mgs a week of Deca helped. Keep your spirit up,take it slow.

I'm sure they will give you something. I got a butt load after my surgery last year to have my pec reattached to my arm.

U mean pain meds or AAS?

I have a Slap Tear in my right shoulder I will be getting repaired in September.

I am on hrt and a bit scared of asking my primary care if Oxandrolone would be good to hold on to muscle mass after surgery and/or deca to aid in collagen synthesis. I wouldn't lift crazy on em', just use them for rehab, but maybe save 1/2 for later

Good luck bro. I hope you get back in full health and feel a lot better :)

Oh yeah guess I didnt read that part. yeah pain meds not AAS, def not at my age. Honestly they would be useless for rehab. The rehab I went thru did not really challenge me. I didnt start rehab until about week 10 after I had my surgery. Stuck in a damn sling god that sucked. Even when I made it to rehab we didnt even hit any chest movements until about the middle of the 2nd month and everything I did there never left me sore. Weights were light and movements were used to stretch or strengthen shoulder muscles.

I've had a rotator cuff repair done (supraspinatus) couldn't really lift for a few months other than the physical therapy, lost a good bit of size/confidence, just be careful not to get addicted to the painkillers they'll give you.

Oh, also ask for a nerve block, it's kind of like when the dentist numbs your jaw, they knock your arm out for a full day, kind of fun to play with post-op.

Glad to hear you are finally going to bite the bullet bro. Feel free at any time to PM me with any other questions you have, especially post op questions. I agree with the nerve block idea. We give them to about 95% of all our patients. The theory behind them is that they will last about 12-24 hrs after your surgery. That is the time that you will have the majority of your discomfort following any type of arthroscopic procedure. A nerve block will keep you in front of the pain rather than having you play catch up with oral painkillers. After I had my shoulder done I think I used painkillers for MAYBE 36 hrs tops. As far as using something to help you recover a little bit quicker goes, I say absolutely. The two things I would reccomend and have used myself are deca and/or HGH. If I had to pick just one it would be HGH. Most people that say growth is a waste of money either cant afford it or cant cycle it the way it should be used. They did not nick name it the HEALING drug for nothing. Oh, the type of block you want is called an inter-scalene. They actually give you a shot in the neck but dont let that scare you. They will have a very, low voltage current going through the needle as they insert it into your neck. You will hardly even feel it, but when they get close to the nerve it will make your hand and arm twitch. Thats when they will inject the marcaine, which is just a longer acting version of novicaine. Good luck bro and keep us posted on your progress. Remember to send me a PM if you have any concerns post op.

typing with left hand, so bear with me. i came home with the nerve block still intact. i'm carrying this little balloon full of medicine that is constantly sending medicine into the nerves of my upper shoulder. Here is what they did-
fixed torn labrium, rotator cuff, took off 5mm from my clavicle and repaired torn tendon in elbow.

Thanks for all the comments- I'll update yall later.
