Having children is very expensive.

For all you young lads that are considering having a family someday, I just want to let you know in advance that you need to make a good living to have more than 1 child. Each child costs about an average of 10,000 a year I have read. I only have 1 and that is all I can afford. I'm sure you all found this post very exciting.

10,000 a year? What the heck are you buying?

Well I can try to figure. 5$ a day at least for food. Say about 2 grand a year. I just bought her clothes. Girls clothes are very expensive. Probably around 1 thousand a year on clothes. Six Flag and Hurrican Harbor passes for her and Me which I wouldn't buy for myself. 2500 a year entertainment including the passes I would estimate. Christmas, birthday presents=350.00. School supplies = about 150.00. 2 bedroom apartment instead of one=1500 yearly. We're getting closer to 10g's. Medical and dental = 200.00 if you're lucky. There's something big that I remembered that I'm leaving out. Basketball, gymnastics, etc= 500.00. I'm sure it would get closer to 10 g's if I keep going. I'm on a limited budget. Some parents spend way more.

It's good that at least your giving your child those things...many aren't as fortunate even to have a lmtd budget...

Single daddy?

Single daddy?

Thanks. And yeah I'm a single father. It sucks too. But I have to make the best of it. At least my ex is marrying a rich guy which I knew she would. They are fixing to buy a 280,000 ranch. That means more for my daughter. That's the way I have to look at it. Even though I can't stand my ex-wife.

Tuition alone is about $4k for my daughter, 5th grade. This Christmas...PS2 $200 and a few games at $40-$50 each...another $200. Birthday party & gifts another couple hundred. Medical insurance $900. Uncovered medical expenses, another grand+ (one monthly non-covered prescript alone is $75.). I'm more than half way there and I haven't bought any food or clothes or shelter. Then there are dance lessons, field trips, vacations, sports, entertainment...it's amazing when you think about it.

Yes, kids are expensive, but, they are the best things you'll ever spend your money on.
