Have a cable modem? Wanna make it faster?

Use this to make your cable modem faster (NOT TO BE USED WITH DSL):

First, u need to goto Start, then run. Type in regedit in the box.
Next, goto the folder
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\services\VxD\MSTCP
Now, find the string DefaultRcvWindow.Now, edit the number to 64240
then restart your computer. There you go. High speed cable modem now with out dloading a program.

regedit doesnt work in every OS. also, you're only allowed so much bandwith from your ISP so most of the times if you surpass that, they'll charge you for it. plus theres more that has to be done than just editing the registy in your OS. You have to take the cable modem apart. Its called uncapping.

Hey PD, thanks for clarifying that. My B/F and I tried that long ago and learned that yeah, it's alot more that changing an entry in the registry.

There are a whole bunch of tweaks over at www.speedguide.net. They definitely work. They work better if you live in a place where a lot of people have the service since they will be eating a lot of the bandwidth. It's helps but don't expect a drastic change
